'New Amsterdam' Season 4 Episode 3: How does Max Goodwin know Veronica Fuentes?

Spoilers for 'New Amsterdam' Season 4 Episode 3

'Same As It Ever Was' saw generous doses of romance, some gut-wrenching emotions and enough feel-good moments. However, the sharp pullback to reality came in the form of New Amsterdam's new Medical Director, Veronica Fuentes (Michelle Forbes). All through the episode, Fuentes was seen observing the residents, the doctors, and the staff and making notes. Soon after Karen Brantley announces that Fuentes would essentially replace Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold), the mood in the camp turns from ecstatic to somber.

The episode ends with Max revealing that he and Fuentes have history. While we may have to wait for the next episode to know more about how the two go way back, what we do know is that she trained Max, mostly at med school. We can also safely assume that her methods of getting the job done are ruthless and is a clear move away from how Max runs things at the hospital. The promo for the fourth episode saw the duo face-off with Fuentes mostly doing the threatening.

There's was enough chatter on social media. Some fans were outraged at Karen for bringing Fuentes in. "So Evil Karen couldn't wait to frustrate Max, my goodness is this the thank u he gets from everything he implemented since...U bring this ruthless, annoying, obnoxious Veronica Fuentes to be MD, she has no compassion #Sharpwin #NewAmsterdam Yall are evil, Max deserves better," a tweet read.

"I just saw this and I really don't know what to expect. I love Michelle Forbes. but please Veronica Fuentes doesn't make any trouble. That being said I feel like before the end of the season she and the docs will become frenemies. #NewAmsterdam #MaxGoodwin," another fan remarked.

Wry humor wasn't far off. "Hey, if it takes evil Veronica Fuentes to end up making Max stay at the hospital, I will gladly suffer through her tyranny until he comes to his senses #NewAmsterdamm," a comment read. This was seconded by another who said: "Oh and as I predicted, Max gonna want to fight that lady so badly, he will have to stay (or come back) to New York. #NewAmsterdam."
