Amidst preparing for their first online concert, Mamamoo has confirmed that they will be coming back with new music soon. The 4-member girl group announced at the beginning of August that they would be having a concert to celebrate their seventh anniversary and the release of the ‘WAW’ album. Despite the cheerful concept photos and teasers, everything feels bittersweet since the news of Wheein's departure.

Usually, contracts in the K-pop industry are for seven years. Most of the time, groups don’t make it past the seven-year curse as some members end up leaving the agency and maybe the group. Unfortunately, Moomoos feel that Mamamoo is on the same path as Wheein was the only member not to re-sign with the group’s agency RBW. She has only signed an extension that allows her to continue group activities with Mamamoo till 2023. This is why fans are happy that we are getting an OT4 comeback with ‘Best Album’ before the year ends.

Mamamoo to release a compilation album

RBW confirmed on August 27 that Mamamoo would indeed be having a September comeback with a compilation album ‘Best Album’ (working title). This is the group’s first comeback after Wheein left the agency in which she will also be participating -- possibly her last album collaboration with Mamamoo as one of its members. The album will have the best of Mamamoo’s songs, new versions of past hits and even a new song that the four girls worked on. Additionally, they also released a nostalgic teaser for the concert full of happy moments, as well as their time since debuting which had fans crying.

As for Wheein’s solo career, she is currently a free agent. A few weeks ago, there were rumors that she would be signing with Jay Park’s label H1GHER MUSIC. Even after her denying it, fans are unconvinced since she also did a collaboration with GOT7’s Jay B who stated that he wanted to work with all artists under H1GHER MUSIC. There are also reports that she might have signed with VIXX Ravi’s label THE L1VE. While fans wait for her to find a new home, they’re happy she is still in Mamamoo.

'Want more OT4 comebacks'

Fans brought back past moments they could identify in the concert teaser with posts like, “So yongsun took this photo of moonbyul and this wheesa selca is also from this day... i'm having emotions,” and “So this was during the Busan One Festival last May?” Moomoos were also excited about the compilation album with double-take memes and tweets like, “2014-2017 moos: i wish mamamoo could perform their old hits again 2018-present moos: i wish i stanned mamamoo earlier to see them perform their old songs mamamoo: say no more,” “Imagine being MAMAMOO members right now, choosing over 150+ songs to be put in 'Best Album,” and “How is mamamoo gonna pick their best songs??? I would have included everything????”

Some even wondered if this would be their last album as OT4, “Wait so is best album basically their disbandment album??” while others wished for as much OT4 content as the girls could put out before the year ended, “I just want more ot4 comebacks bfore 2022 is over ... hopefully that's still a thing. need more music from them. ofc unless they are not into it, though. and WAW has just been ... idk. sad. bc it happens around the news of wheein leaving.” One fan was still excited as they added, “I don't think it's an actual comeback comeback but guess what? who cares MAMAMOO IS COMING BACK FOR US MODEFOKERS.”
