Webtoons are digital graphic comic books that were launched in South Korea as manhwas and became increasingly popular. Having replaced the physical manhwa comics, webtoons are also entering the world of animation and K-drama adaptations. Since 2019, several animation studios like Crunchy Roll are partnering up with Naver’s webtoons to create animes. They are also getting OSTs (original soundtracks) sung by the likes of Monsta X and Super Junior.

Other than the standard format of releasing music and promoting on music shows, OSTs are doing increasingly well among the general public. Whether it is an anime’s OST or a video game’s, they are usually successful as they top charts. This is probably why Ridi Corp, a content company, has announced that they will be launching a webtoon OST series with the likes of Astro’s Eunwoo, Mamamoo’s Moonbyul and Jinyoung.

Idols to sing webtoon OSTs

Ridi specializes in webtoons and web fiction. And now they’re entering the music industry by roping in several K-pop idols for their webtoons’ OSTs. The very first track to be released will be for the webtoon ‘Morning Kiss at Tiffany’s’. It is also in the talks of being adapted into a K-drama. And the OST titled ‘Breath’ will be sung by Soyou. The former Sistar member will be singing the R&B-pop track which expresses the mixed emotions the female lead Hari goes through due to her unrequited love for the male lead, Cha Eun-ho.

Soyou’s OST will be released on September 8 at 6 pm KST (5 am ET). The next OST has also been teased and will be for the web novel ‘Hanyang Diary’. The author has also written the web novel ‘Morning Kiss at Tiffany’s’ is based on. Ridi’s CEO has stated that their aim with the OST series is to make sure that fans can wholly immerse themselves into the webtoon experience. The OSTs will be produced and released by Orange Dimension, a subsidiary of Ridi.

Which Jinyoung?

They have also released a lineup of singers who will participate in the series. Along with Soyou, it also includes Astro’s Eunwoo, Ailee, Mamamoo’s Moonbyul, Gaho and Jinyoung. Fans of the first five artists are over the moon while there has been some confusion for Jinyoung fans. Ahgases wonder whether it is GOT7’s Jinyoung. He doesn't use his full name and goes by the stage name Jinyoung since he shares it with Park Jinyoung, soloist and founder of JYPE. Ridi could also be talking about the former B1A4 leader Jinyoung who is making waves with his newest K-drama ‘Police University’. Since he is not active in B1A4, he is referred without the group's name. Some even wondered if it was CIX's Jinyoung.

Ahgases ended up trending Jinyoung as they tried to figure out who was included in the lineup. Moomoos on the other hand were proud of Moonbyul as this is her very first OST, “SO MOONBYUL IS GONNA SING AT THIS RIDI WEBTOON AS SOLOIST LIKE THE OTHER MEMBERS??? IM JUST VERY PROUDDDD OF HER!!” So were Arohas as they tweeted, “Another cha eunwoo ost coming, busy n booked indeed.” An Ailee fan was impressed as this is her 5th OST of 2021, “So another Ailee OST is pretty much confirmed?!” An excited Gaho fan added, “Ohow Gaho.” A Soyou fan commented, “Ok but this is sistar's year come on soyou ost queennn.”
