KCON LA 2022: NCT Dream to attend with 5 members, fans say 'let them be 7Dream for once'

While fans are excited that NCT Dream will be attending KCON LA 2022, especially during the music festival’s 10th anniversary, many were disheartened when it was revealed that only five members will be present. While the sub-unit has seven members, Mark and Haechan are also part of another sub-unit - NCT 127. In fact, the label SM Entertainment had tried to create a rotational concept like Super Junior with NCT Dream by having Mark ‘graduate’ and leave the group. But after fans’ demands, he rejoined.

The members also love being a seven-member group as evident by them calling themselves ‘NCT 7Dream’ or just ‘7Dream’. But fans have noticed that during most group activities, SM only promotes with five members - Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung while Mark and Haechan are made to prioritize NCT 127. Even for KPop.Flex, the biggest K-pop festival in Europe, we only got five members since Mark and Haechan were busy with NCT 127’s second world tour ‘Neo City’. And despite making a 7Dream comeback with ‘Beatbox’ on May 30, we are once again getting only five-member schedules.

NCT Dream to attend KCON LA 2022 as five

NCTzens were first worried as the ‘Beatbox’ promotions were postponed due to the members coming down with Covid-19. While they are currently back to interviews, photoshoots, music and variety shows for the comeback, many were confused as to why Mark and Haechan were skipping out on KCON LA 2022. Like ComicCon, VideoCon or DragCon, KCON is one of the biggest K-pop conventions - almost a K-pop Coachella - with concerts, meet and greets and other exciting events. We have gotten some iconic stages at the music festival that has editions all over the world from KCON Thailand to KCON Australia.

‘The group is SEVEN’

While fans are happy to see NCT Dream in the KCON LA lineup and are cheering for the five members who are set to attend, they are also demanding 7Dream activities. One NCTzen tweeted, “Y'all know how vocal and proud i am whether its 7dream, 6dream or 5dream schedule but the fact that 7dream always only happen on comeback promotions but never in overseas schedule ... i mean sm can make a better plan just to not clash any schedules but they didn't do it.” Another fan pointed out, “The kcon news dropping right after the interview in which mark said like a hundred times how much he adores being 7dream, future plans and everything but y'all just dgaf.”

One NCTzen added, “Its 2022 and theres hasnt been a single instance where sm prioritized 7dream over 127 im so tired of this.” Another shared, “At this point the only time we get 7dream is for comeback promotions and the rest of the time it’s just 5dream… are fans of dream supposed to just accept this as the norm when the group is SEVEN. it’s unfair for the members and the fans.” One fan wrote, “We don't want mahae [Mark and Haechan] to overwork themselves, yes.  but come on let them be 7dream for once when promoting overseas. sm u gotta seriously plan your schedules very well.”
