K-pop at Met Gala 2021: CL and Blackpink’s Rose become first female idols to attend

CL pays homage to her country while Blackpink's Rose stuns in YSL with their first appearance at the Met Gala 2021

It doesn’t seem like K-pop fans were exaggerating when they said that the Hallyu Wave was going global. More and more K-pop artists are taking over other industries and fashion happens to be a major one. In fact, just a few months ago, BTS was invited to attend and participate in Louis Vuitton’s fashion show and now idols like CL and Blackpink’s Rose (Rosé) are attending the Met Gala.

Met Gala 2021 is one of the most glamorous nights in New York as fashion experts get together to host a charity benefit for the MET's Costume Institute. The gala has become an opportunity for celebrities and fashion designers to show off their finest outfits as the whole world has an eye on them. Previously, PSY was the first K-pop idol and Super Junior’s Siwon was the first K-pop group member to attend the Met Gala in 2013. And now it seems like former labelmates ex-2NE1 star CL and Blackpink’s Rose are the first female K-pop idols to walk its red carpet.

Rose attends Met Gala 2021

In fact, two days before the Met Gala 2021, New York paparazzi spotted the Blackpink star leaving an Yves Saint Laurent store after a fitting. Rose happens to be the global ambassador for the French fashion house and if she is going to attend the benefit, she is bound to be decked in YSL. And they were not wrong. But Blinks were wary since MTV had stated that Lisa would be performing at the MTV VMAs 2021 which wasn’t true. Fans, however, were excited about the potential appearance and now are over the moon since Rose did attend the Met Gala 2021.

She wore a YSL little black dress with a white statement bow as a bandeau. Her diamond earrings and necklace shaped as clovers are from Tiffany and Co. another fashion brand that she is an ambassador of. And her escort was none other than Anthony Vaccarello as Rose walked the red carpet with the creative director of YSL. Then we also had CL, a former member and leader of the second-gen leading girl group 2NE1. She was also in the same agency as Rose -- YG Entertainment.

Currently a soloist, CL too happened to be present for the extravagant night. It should be noted that the theme of Met Gala 2021 was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’. CL displayed the perfect example of following the theme while making her home country proud. Her custom-made Alexander Wang outfit is made from the American classic blue denim fabric but the outfit itself is shaped in the form of a traditional Korean hanbok with a knot. Even her hair was styled in the shape of the headpiece that Korean queens wore. And Korean netizens are extremely proud of her.

Fans of both CL and Rose were excited as they made tweets like, “CL & ROSÉ. the first kpop female idols to grace the MET GALA. QUEEN THINGS,” “Hold mah f**kn beer!!!! You mean there’s a BIG BIG chance of Rosé and CL meeting at the MET GALA???? Oh lawwwdddd,” and “Cl and rose talking sh!t about yg when they meet.”

A Blink commented, “Rosé is so gorg on met gala! wow! I'm living for this.” “No, because CL literally serve at the Met gala, The American denim with the traditional Korean knot her hair that is inspired by the Korean traditional hairstyles. She really is the Most fly Asian,” said a GZB. One added, “She is the epitome of beauty — ROSÉ AT THE MET GALA.” Another posted, “There's no other k-pop artist that deserves to be at the Met Gala more than the CL.
