NCT 127’s second world tour has been pretty exciting from their explosive Seoul stages to them finally getting a dome concert tour in Japan. On top of that, they sold out at all of the stops including the 2-day stop at Tokyo Dome, one of the biggest venues in the world. It felt extra special since this would also be the first dome concert tour for Japanese member Yuta who would get a chance to perform in his hometown in Osaka. The Japan leg of the world tour was highly anticipated, which also led to SM Entertainment live-streaming NCT 127’s Tokyo Dome concert on May 28.

But while fans loved the Tokyo Dome concerts, they couldn’t help but notice that Yuta barely had any screentime as he was edited out. Fans compiled all the times the NCT 127 star was cut out like the time he got 0.8 seconds while performing ‘Back 2 U’ and ‘Focus’. During the final song ‘Promise You’, he wasn’t shown at all. In one fancam where Yuta is heard thanking Japanese fans, he was again not shown on the big screen. In the end, when the members wave goodbye from a gondola while leaving the stage, Yuta was again edited out.

Yuta gets less screentime at Tokyo Dome concert

Following fans’ displeasure, we also had popular Japanese media outlets covering the unfair treatment of Yuta. They also brought up the time labelmate and the only Japanese aespa member Giselle was missing from the promotional content of Club Clio Japan’s new commercials despite being a brand ambassador. The Japanese media felt for Yuta’s reported mistreatment in his home country and hoped that the feelings of the fans would reach his label SM Entertainment.

'Getting too awful'

Upset NCT 127 fans made tweets like, “The saddest part about here is that Yuta was shouting arigatou but they still didn't show him😔 it really broke my heart. How much evil you have to be to do this to the only Japanese member in their group?” Another posted, “J-media speaking out on mistreatment of japanese artists (mainly yuta) in SM... getting too awful that they have noticed it enough to speak out strongly about it.”

Fans also made a thread compiling the alleged mistreatment, “Evidence of how u mistreated Yuta at his dream concert: skipping him during his lines, giving him 0.8s screentime, NO ENDING Are u not ashamed to discriminate yet put him in your business report as proof of profit in Japan.” Another NCTzen added, “I’m happy J-media are writing about this current situation depicting the clear differential treatment Yuta gets & are calling out the company. How is SM seeking to create a NCT Tokyo unit but can barely treat the one Japanese member they’ve had for years as equally as others?”
