SMTOWN 'Zoo': NCT unit erases aespa's Giselle from collab, fans angry 'feels so empty'
We are finally getting more NCT content for the full group comeback that happened in late 2021. NCT 2021 Universe happened to be the third comeback with all members. To celebrate, we are now getting variety shows and segments with all of the members for ‘The NCT Show’. At the same time, we also got a new version of the SMTOWN song ‘Zoo’ with the four NCT members that had participated.
SMTOWN which is a collaboration between all active artists under SM Entertainment got together to release the album ‘SMCU Express’ which became a certified double-platinum seller. We got different collaborations among members of different SM groups like TVXQ and Super Junior, members of aespa, NCT and Girls’ Generation, and more. For the track ‘Zoo’, it was a rappers unit with NCT’s Taeyong, Jeno, Hendery and Yangyang, and aespa’s Giselle.

‘Zoo’ performed only by NCT members
Well, on May 22, ‘The NCT Show’ introduced a new performance video for the music space. For this particular segment, we only got the four NCT members performing SMTOWN’s ‘Zoo’ where they even replaced Giselle’s verse. While fans were fine with the NCT version of the track, even during the behind-the-scenes clip, they did not mention the aespa member. With Giselle not being credited during the video for writing her rap and being erased in the new performance clip, both NCT and aespa fans are slamming SM.
'It's not the same without Giselle'
One fan tweeted, “aespa F**KING LACK in contents and this ONE F**KING OPPORTUNITY to let GISELLE shine is f**king bullshit. Performing it with the four version is FINE but changing her part and not mentioning her feels so unreal and just plasticity.” Another fan posted, “ZOO is an smtown collaboration song in which giselle is credited as one of the lyricists. the point is they could have mentioned giselle or gave her some credits but they didn't!!! they made it look like an nct song instead.”
One fan hoped they would get to see a proper collab at the Tokyo Dome concert, “Grateful for this music space! But it's honestly not the same without Giselle - it was pretty clear from the script that the boys weren't allowed to mention her. Still hoping for an OT5 Zoo performance at SMTOWN in August.” Another said, “Giselle in zoo is forever iconic and no one can deny it.” One fan added, “Zoo feels so empty for me without giselle's "can you hear me roaring" and her duo line with jeno.” Another said, “Zoo is a collab. Giselle should get credit and get to promote and talk about it as much as every other person who is part of the song. The fact that some people are acting like her not even being mentioned is okay, need to re-evaluate. SM does this to their female idols 24/7.”
