SM Entertainment has announced its plans for the remainder of the year by stating that they will indeed by going ahead with the debut of the sub-unit NCT Hollywood. It has been revealed that they will also be introducing NCT Tokyo aka NCT Japan, specifically targeting Japanese K-pop fans. But with the sudden news, fans are unhappy. We have Korean member Sungchan and Japanese member Shotaro, the newest members of NCT who have been mostly inactive since they do not have a fixed unit. Apart from two group comebacks, they have gotten some non-music gigs but that’s it.

Additionally, fans are worried that SM might take out Yuta from NCT 127 and put him in NCT Tokyo the way they erased WayV's Winwin from NCT 127. At the same time, many NCTzens (NCT’s fans) are wondering what this will mean for our favorite duo Sungchan and Shotaro as it is evident that the latter being Japanese will possibly join NCT Tokyo. SM is also under fire for adding more NCT members and sub-units with the claims that they have not been able to manage their existing groups like aespa, Red Velvet, and NCT members well. WayV has been inactive for almost a year while there is still no update on Lucas’ scandal.

Will Yuta and Shotaro join NCT Tokyo?

While some fans are not sure if new idols will be joining NCT, many are confident that it is the route SM will take as they have set up auditions for new trainees who know Japanese hinting that they will be added to NCT Tokyo along with Yuta and Shotaro. On the other hand, many wonder if Mark will once again have to join a new sub-unit with American member Johnny since NCT Hollywood is catered to the West. As for Korean member Sungchan, there have not been any obvious spoilers about his fixed sub-unit.

‘Leave Yuta out of it’

One fan was worried, “Now that sm is getting serious about nct japan and auditioning vocalists i think their plan is to ship yuta off to nct japan permanently winwin style and replace him in 127 with sungchan.” Another fan commented, “As an ai you got to be particularly dumb to think that NCT Japan will benefit Yuta in any way considering the company he’s in. They will make him debut to leech off his popularity in order to uplift the group (not him) & make sure that every job he gets will be shared.”

One NCTzen tweeted, “I’ve said this before and i’ll keep saying it… SM can debut NCT Tokyo or NCT Japan or whatever they’re gonna call the unit, that’s fine. It’s the brand’s concept after all. BUT. Leave Yuta out of it. If he’s going to debut again in Japan, it will be as a solo artist.”

One was happy for Shotaro but hoped Sungchan would get to join him, “It doesn't surprise me since Taro has been doing many things in Japan... Only one thing don't separate Sungtaro.” Another added, “Please don't separate Sungchan and Shotaro🥺, they're soulmates…”

One NCTzen posted, “At least give us an assurance, assurance that sungtaro will have a fixed unit, it's been 2 years since they debut and both of them obviously wants to perform and create music for their fans too. they are very talented, we all know that.” Another joked, "Sungchan on his way to learn and speak fluently in eng or Japanese so he can be included in nct Tokyo or Hollywood."
