‘The Devil Wears Prada’ 2 will feature George Clooney but not in the way fans would expect
It looks like George Clooney won’t be showing up on screen in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ 2, but that does not mean he is entirely missing from the picture. In a funny twist, the actor’s famous Italian getaway has slipped into the sequel. And once you notice it, you probably won’t be able to unsee it. The property in question is Villa Oleandra, Clooney’s well-known estate on Lake Como. While it does not play a role in the story itself, the villa appears in the background during one of the trailer’s scenes. If you have already caught a glimpse of the preview, you may recall a shot of Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt speeding across the water. Look a little closer at that moment, and there it is: Clooney’s lakeside home sitting in the distance.
What makes this even more amusing is that Clooney had no idea about the cameo at first. While attending the 51st annual Chaplin Award Gala at Lincoln Center on April 27, he was told about the surprise appearance. His reaction? Classic Clooney humor. “Is it really? Oh man, I've made it,” he quipped while speaking with Access Hollywood. Even though he’s already one of Hollywood’s most recognizable names, the idea of his house “making it” into a major film clearly amused him. Clooney went on to talk about the place itself, and it is clear the villa is not just another luxury property on his list. “The house holds a special place in my heart, because I love going there,” he stated. There is also a personal link to the cast that makes the whole situation a bit more interesting.
Clooney mentioned his close friendship with Emily Blunt. That only adds to the coincidence of her appearing in a scene that features his home in the background. He added that the surprise appearance feels even more special because Blunt “is just a dear, dear, dear, dear friend. The whole cast! Has it come out? It's going to be a big hit.” That confidence about the film’s success is not coming out of nowhere. The sequel is bringing back several key faces from the original 2006 movie, including Meryl Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. With David Frankel returning to direct, the project is clearly aiming to recapture the tone that made the first film such a fan favorite.
As for Villa Oleandra itself, it has quite a story beyond its brief appearance in the trailer. Clooney purchased the estate in 2002, long before it became one of the most talked-about celebrity homes in Europe. Located in the small town of Laglio along Lake Como’s western shore, the property dates back to the 18th century. The villa is anything but modest. Spanning roughly 100,000 square feet, it includes a private pier, a swimming pool, and even a tennis court. And with ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ 2 set to hit theaters on May 1, fans are already keeping an eye out for familiar faces, iconic fashion moments, and now, apparently, a hidden real estate cameo.
