LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Beef' has premiered on Netflix on April 5 and has brought some major screen moments to the TV landscape. The summary tells us that the plot is about a moment of road rage escalating into complete chaos. But the series is so much more. The plot is quite simple, but has many layers underneath it.

The series talks about many topics, but one that is highlighted is the way women can act in road rage incidents. Female rage is seldom depicted in TV shows but this one does it justice. 'Beef' stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun in the lead and the duo perfectly potray Amy and Danny, doing justice to their scaly characters. The cast members also include the very talented David Choe, Young Mazino and Ashley Park.

What's driving stereotypes?

Stereotypes are societal constructs that create barriers between individuals. But, stereotypes have also led people to be 'indifferent' to certain kinds of behavior. For example, the idea that women can't drive is a big misconception but the stereotype is so prevelant that women drivers have become the tired punch line to bad jokes. 'Beef' shows how this stereotype leads people to the believe that females can't exhibit road rage as they are usually the victims of road rage as "bad drivers." The notion that they can be good enough drivers to speed on roads, chase a car, overtake it or purposely ram it, is "unthinkable." But Ali Wong's Amy does that and so much more.

What does a woman's road rage look like?

The idea of being a victim of someone's internal pent up anger that suddenly explodes out of nowhere is quite prodigiously potrayed in 'Beef.' When Ali Wong as Amy and Steven Yeun as Danny get into a dangerous car chase, Danny's thinks the person who he is having a total 'Fast and Furious' chase with is a man. When he later realizes that it was a woman driving all along, the idea that his car was rammed into by a women makes him feel quite ashamed.

The series points perfectly to the idea that the stereotype about incompetent women drivers are so ingrained in our brains, that even a big criminal offense like road rage seems like the man's fault than a woman's. It also shows how female road rage looks like — something quite overlooked in storytelling and plots.
