The winners of the 79th edition of Golden Globes were announced earlier tonight and it was ‘The Power of the Dog’ that took home the biggest prize of the night in the form of Best Picture. This year’s ceremony was a “private affair” and was not telecasted on NBC. Making things even worse, HFPA decided that the event won’t be even “live-streamed” and the winners were announced on the official Twitter handle of Golden Globes.

Just like every year, there were a lot of predictions about who’ll with the awarded in a certain category. But HFPA is known to surprise us with its results and this year was no different. There were some results that made fans really unhappy and they did not waste any time in expressing their disappointment on social media.

So, let’s take a look at all the actors who were snubbed at this year’s Golden Globes.

Will Smith’s win over Benedict Cumberbatch in the Best Actor category

As soon as the awards season started, everyone was confident that Benedict Cumberbatch’s raw and nuanced performance in Jane Campion’s ‘The Power of the Dog’ will surely be receiving the Best Actor accolade at the Golden Globes. The British actor was awarded the Best Actor trophy by various critics’ societies and he was undoubtedly the frontrunner at the Globes as well.

However, it was Will Smith who picked up the victory for ‘King Richard’. Smith received lot of praise for his acting in the movie and was always in the race, but Cumberbatch was poised to win this category. As soon as Smith’s name was announced, social media erupted with ‘Benedict was ROBBED’ posts, making everyone know that the ‘Sherlock’ star has been snubbed by the HFPA.

Nicole Kidman’s Best Actress win

This is probably the biggest snub coming out of this year’s Golden Globes. Whenever people or even critics discussed who’ll win the trophy, the only names that came on everyone’s minds were Kristen Stewart (‘Spencer’) and Olivia Colman (‘The Lost Daughter’). Kidman’s performance was praised by everyone, but no one expected her to be the winner. So, when her name was announced from the stage, everyone was shocked, but not pleased.

Fans believed that Kristen Stewart was far better than Kidman and should have won the award. The ‘Twilight’ star received the Best Actress award from 14 critics’ associations and societies, making her the favorite to win at the Globes. But, Kidman’s name was a shock to everyone and it was definitely the biggest snub of the evening.

Beyonce Knowles

Beyonce is one of the biggest names in the entertainment industry and has won numerous accolades over the years. At this year’s Golden Globes, Queen Bey was up for an award for her song, ‘Be Alive’, from the movie ‘King Richard’. Another artist nominated for the Best Song accolade was Billie Eilish. She garnered a nom for the James Bond theme song in ‘No Time To Die’.

Beyonce was considered to be the clear winner in this category and fans were ready to celebrate the victory. However, their hopes were dashed when Billie Eilish took home the Best Song trophy, leaving all the Beyonce fans furious. Some of them turned to social media and expressed their disappointment by writing that it was the best song this year and should have won the trophy. Meanwhile, some opined that the ‘Lemonade’ hitmaker was robbed.

Well, it's just the beginning of the awards season and we are surely going to see many more snubs like these in the upcoming months. May the best man and woman win.
