BEVERLEY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: The return of the 80th Golden Globe Awards gave fans the hope of a fresh start. As the ceremony began in Beverly Hills at The Beverly Hilton and host and comedian Jerrod Carmichael started the show with his monologue, social media users were quick to praise him. Fans said it was an amazing start to the Golden Globes. However, several social media users quickly changed their views, labeling the show "boring".

A Los Angeles Times exposé in 2021 revealed how there was a lack of racial diversity in the HFPA. The Globes was boycotted by studios like Netflix, Amazon, and WarnerMedia, as well as stars like Scarlett Johansson and Tom Cruise after the investigation. In May 2021, NBC announced it would not air the ceremony the following year.

The investigation found the HFPA did not have any Black members among its 87 members. They had failed to induct one in nearly two decades. The organization faced sharp criticism for omitting Black-led films and TV shows like 'Judas and the Black Messiah' and 'I May Destroy You'. However, the award show finally returned this year, to fans' joy.

"Golden globes boring asf who wants to watch a whole episode of succession with me," one user wrote on Twitter. "Golden Globes said we’re back and more boring than ever!!" one user wrote, while another said, "This is terrible and cringe. Boring. Like not even inspiring or witty. I forget I'm m watching an awards show about film and entertainment." "This is officially the most boring Golden Globes I’ve ever watched and I think I’m off to read Spare," one user said.
