'Music Bank': Enhypen's Sunghoon, IZ*ONE's Wonyoung to become new MCs for KBS show

Enhypen’s Sunghoon and ex-IZ*ONE member Wonyoung will start as MCs for KBS ‘Music Bank’ from October 8, replacing TXT's Soobin and Oh My Girl's Arin

The current MCs of ‘Music Bank’, TXT’s Soobin and Oh My Girl’s Arin are to finally end their stint on the music show. On September 27, it was announced that they would be replaced by Enhypen’s Sunghoon and IZ*ONE’s former member Wonyoung. Music shows are a platform for K-pop artists to perform and promote their new releases. It also fosters good-natured competition as they are judged for their music by being awarded points on how well they fulfilled certain criteria. The song with the most points wins in that week.

Hence, such music shows require hosts and MCs to moderate the show. Most music shows rope in celebrities like idols, TV personalities and even actors to become MCs. Most of the time, they’re ‘insiders’ since they also have to interview the artists who are set to perform on the music show. In fact, just a month ago, another music show — ‘Music Core’ — made NCT’s Jungwoo and Stray Kids’ Lee Know their MCs. They replaced SF9’s Chani and Stray Kids’ Hyunjin.

Sunghoon and Wonyoung replace Soobin and Arin

On September 27, it was revealed that Enhypen’s Sunghoon and ex-IZ*ONE member Wonyoung will start as MCs for KBS’ ‘Music Bank’ from October 8. October 1 will be the last episode with Soobin and Arin as MCs. Sunghoon and Wonyoung will have a special stage where they will perform together to introduce themselves. Sunghoon had previously been a guest MC for Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’. He had also shown an interest in hosting and so Engenes (Enhypen’s fandom) are happy that he will be succeeding his labelmate as both TXT and Enhypen are managed by Hybe.

Wonyoung on the other hand has joined IZ*ONE’s MC line. Previously, she had shared that there were five of the members that had wanted to become MCs. Minju is a ‘Music Core’ MC and Yujin is an MC at ‘Inkigayo’. With Wonyoung joining ‘Music Bank’ she has become the third member of the former group to become an MC. WIZ*ONEs (IZ*ONE’s fandom) are also excited as this will allow Yuri who is going solo soon to be interviewed by three of her members while she promotes her album.

Fans of Soobin and Arin thanked them with tweets like, “Mc soobin & akkong mc is so loved. thank you for everything :(,” “Their impact will be unmatched,” and “THEY SET THE BAR SO HIGH. MC SOOBIN AND MC ARIN DID SUCH A GREAT JOB! YOU WORKED WELL AKKONG MCS!!!”

In the meantime, WIZ*ONEs and Engenes are excited for the new MCs as they made posts like, “Okay but imagine the visuals of wonyoung and sunghoon together like,” “THE POWER MINJU, YUJIN AND WONYOUNG HAVE TOGETHER AAAAA OUR F3 MCS,” and “So proud of sunghoon! cannot wait to see him shine as an mc he’s definitely going to do so well.”

‘Music Bank’ will air on KBS2’s channel every Friday at 5 pm KST (4 am ET).
