Ed Sheeran, Sunmi, Jessi to drop 'Shiver' remix, fans say 'life is so unpredictable'

Many fans wondered if Jessi and Sunmi were just dropping a cover of Ed's song but Warner Music Korea released a statement

With the year-end award shows and music shows lined up, fans are expecting all kinds of interactions and collaborations between their favorite idols, but no one could have guessed this trio. Sunmi immediately went viral after she posted a coming soon poster that said, “Ed Sheeran ‘Shivers’ by Jessi and SUNMI”. Fans at first thought that the two female idols were about to drop a cover of Ed Sheeran’s latest song, but that’s not it.

For those who don’t know, Ed Sheeran is quite into K-pop and has actually worked in the industry with his latest credit being for writing BTS’ ‘Permission to Dance’. He had also interacted with the super-project group MSG Wannabe which made fans wonder if he would collaborate with them. And last week, it was announced that Ed Sheeran had been invited and would be performing at Mnet Asian Music Awards aka MAMA 2021, the biggest K-pop award show. Once again, some wondered if he would be having a collab stage with Jessi and Sunmi at MAMA.

Ed Sheeran, Sunmi and Jessi to collab

That could be possible since we have had previous collaborations like Dua Lipa and Mamamoo’s Hwasa come on the MAMA stage to perform their remix in the past. But as for Sunmi’s post, Warner Music Korea cleared all confusion. The label released a statement that said that the new ‘Shivers’ version is a collaboration between Ed Sheeran, Jessi and Sunmi. They added, “We have prepared hard to show you [this collaboration], so we ask for your interest and love.”

Release date

Ed Sheeran, Jessi and Sunmi’s version of ‘Shivers’ will be released on November 24 at 6 pm KST (4 am ET).

The new remix will be available on major music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, MelOn and more.

'Their vibes so diff'

All three artists are talented but this particular collaboration is quite surprising since their styles vastly differ. And while Jessi and Sunmi have done ballads and soft pop songs with Ed Sheeran putting out the occasional rock singles, fans had much to say. With the bad girl image that Jessi and Sunmi have juxtaposed with Ed Sheeran’s soft ballads and upbeat pop songs, fans had the funniest memes for this collab.

One user joked, “Sunmi jessi and ed sheeran is the kind of combo you end up with when the teachers made the teams for the group projects themselves.” Another wondered, “It says ed sheeran 'Shivers' BY Jessi and SUNMI not Ed Sheeran 'Shivers' FEATURING Jessi and SUNMI. It's most likely a cover by the two of them  unless there's a collab stage at an award show then its a collab but either way aht aht ion wanna see negativity in faves mentions.”

Fans also made reaction memes while another was surprised that they didn’t guess the collab in advance. “The dots were literally right there to be connected sunmi on ed sheeran's live, singing shivers, posting pics w jessi and ed sheeran attending mama like.” One user shared, “Their vibes so diff.” Similarly, someone said, “You have sunmi and jessi looking like the c*ntress that they are and then there's ed.” Another joked, “P nation and abyss waking up sunmi and jessi to feature on ed sheeran's song.” This fan wondered if Ed Sheeran was a K-pop idol, “Imagine buying a sunmi album and pulling an ed sheeran photocard.”
