Netflix has started production on a sequel to its French action thriller 'Ad Vitam.' Guillaume Canet is returning as Franck Lazareff, a former GIGN operator at the center of the story. The sequel is currently titled 'Ad Vitam Eternam', which is Latin for 'to eternal life'. The new film will follow Franck facing another dangerous threat after the events of the first movie. Variety reported that the sequel has entered production with a new director and an expanded cast. Ludovic Colbeau-Justin, known for 'Néro: The Assassin', will direct the film, replacing original director Rodolphe Lauga. The story begins after Franck survives an assassination attempt following his release from prison. He goes into hiding with his family in the mountains, but French intelligence agents soon track him down.

French intelligence then offers Franck a deal. He must take part in a covert mission in exchange for the truth about who wants him dead. Canet co-wrote the screenplay with French novelist Maxime Chattam, with David Corona returning to collaborate after co-writing the first film. Canet and Jean Cottin are producing the sequel through their company, Cabanes Productions. The cast will feature Stéphane Caillard, Nassim Lyes, Zita Hanrot, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Sophie Marceau, and Mathieu Amalric alongside Canet. Production will take place across several parts of France. The filming locations include Île-de-France, Normandy, Savoie, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.

The first 'Ad Vitam' became a strong performer for Netflix France. It reached No. 9 on Netflix's list of its most popular non-English films. The sequel joins a busy lineup of French productions on Netflix, which includes 'Call My Agent: The Movie,' 'Lupin' Season 4, and 'Quasimodo,' starring Vincent Cassel. Netflix has not announced a release date for 'Ad Vitam Eternam'. With production now underway, Franck Lazareff's next mission is officially taking shape.
