Netflix finally confirms 'Lupin' Part 4 release and hints at new moves for Omar Sy's Assane Diop
One of Netflix's most acclaimed thrillers is officially coming back for season 4. The streaming giant has been grabbing major headlines for its diverse slate of content. Netflix is also popular for releasing power-packed foreign titles. One such blockbuster show is a French mystery thriller series, Lupin, which was first released on January 8, 2021. Now, in some good news for fans, the streaming giant has officially confirmed the release date for season 4, and honestly, the wait is proving to be harder than expected.
Netflix announced that 'Lupin' is officially returning for its fourth season in fall 2026, its longest gap since releasing parts 1 and 2 in 2021 and season 3 in 2023. Production began in May and remains underway, with Omar Sy back as gentleman thief Assane Diop. Speaking about the renewal, Sy told Netflix that Lupin is "an extraordinary plaything" that he enjoys every time he steps into the role, as per CBR.
Co-created by George Kay and François Uzan, the series follows Assane Diop, the son of a Senegalese immigrant, who becomes a world-class thief. Season 3 ended with Assane stealing the Black Pearl, winning public support, saving his mother, faking his death, and ultimately landing in prison after realising the personal cost of his choices.
Although season 4 has no official synopsis yet, early set photos show Assane out of prison and filming a large-scale action sequence that required Paris police to restrict traffic, suggesting his escape or release will kick off the new chapter. Notably, 'Lupin' is one of Netflix's most-watched non-English series, and season 4 will add eight more episodes to the gentleman thief's saga.
Reportedly, 'Lupin' ranks among Netflix's most popular non-English shows, with season 1 at No. 5 (99.5M views) and season 2 at No. 9 (68.4M views). The series is also a critics' favorite, holding a near-perfect 98% Rotten Tomatoes score across its first three seasons, with season 3 earning a perfect 100%, with audiences giving it 79%, as per Variety.
Inspired by Maurice Leblanc's 'Lupin' stories, the series is written by Mathilde Arnaud, Jean-Yves Arnaud, Florent Meyer, Tigran Rosine, and Pennda Ba, and directed by Edouard Salier, Everardo Gout, and Hugo Gélin. Produced by Gaumont with Carrousel Studios, the show features a strong ensemble cast including Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, Shirine Boutella, Etan Simon, Clotilde Hesme, Nicole Garcia, and Hervé Pierre.
