LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Disney is back with a piece of exciting news for the upcoming 'Descendants' movie. The first movie of the franchise saw the kids of famous Disney villains going to a school in Auradon, but 'Descendants 4' will take a different direction than its predecessors and also introduce a range of newer cast members.

The 'Descendants' franchise has an incredible cast including Kristen Chenoweth as Maleficent, Dove Cameron as Mal, Cameron Boyce as Carlos, Sofia Carson as Evie, Booboo Stewart as Jay, Mitchell Hope as Ben, Sarah Jeffery as Audrey, Brenna D'Amico as Jane, Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother, Thomas Doherty as Harry Hook, Dylan Playfair as Gil, Zachary Gibson as Doug and Jedidiah Goodacre as Chad Charming. The franchise has also seen Dan Payne as Beast, Keegan Connor Tracy as Belle and Cheyenne Jackson as Hades.

The new and younger line of 'Descendants 4'

While the previous movies of 'Descendants' featured the off-springs of classic Disney villains, the upcoming fourth film of the franchise is titled 'Descendants: The Pocketwatch' and is set to feature younger versions of classic Disney favorites including Jasmine and Aladdin. In an official post on Instagram, Disney has announced the new characters to be included in the franchise. The announcement introduced Tristan Padil as Teen Prince Charming, Aiza Azaar as Teen Jasmine, Mars as Teen Maleficent, Kabir Bery as Teen Aladdin, and Anthony Pyatt as Teen Hades. The announcement also has included Peder Lindell playing Morgie, Grace Narducci as Teen Fey and Sam Morelos as Zellie.

It is to be noted that the only confirmed character to return from the original 'Descendants' franchise is Uma (China Anne McClain). Uma will be seen alongside Red (Kylie Cantrall), the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe (Dara Renée), the daughter of Cinderella.

What is 'Descendants 4' about?

The plot of 'Descendants 4' will not follow the storylines of the established offspring in previous films in the franchise. Instead, the movie is set to follow Uma, Red and Chloe as they team up to go back in time with the help of the White Rabbit's magic pocket watch. They have to do this in order to prevent a catastrophic event from taking place in Auradon. This upcoming story seems to be heavily inspired by 'Alice in Wonderland'. And as the characters are travelling back in time, we would be able to see the world before the first 'Descendant' film -the beloved prince and princess of Disney in their teen years. The upcoming movie is said to be directed by 'The Flight Attendants' fame Jennifer Phang.

The first 'Descendants' was released on Disney Channel in 2015. The sequel of the movie, 'Descendants 2', was released in 2017 as a Disney Channel Original Movie; and 'Descendants 3' was released in 2019 on Disney Channel. Apart from the three movies, the 'Descendants' franchise include three short films 'Under the Sea: A Descendants Short Story' in 2018, 'Audrey's Royal Return: A Descendants Short Story' in 2019 and 'Wicked Woods: A Descendants Halloween Story' in 2019.

The animated TV Special 'Descendants: The Royal Wedding' was released in 2021; novels and a musical based on the movie franchises have also been released.

'Descendants' is available to stream on Disney +.
