Who is Derrick Bowman?

Anthony Anderson's younger stepbrother is Derrick Bowman. They grew up in Compton, California, together. While Anthony wanted to become a performer like his mother Dora, Derrick chose to become a nurse. He is presently employed as an ER technician at MLK Community Healthcare. On February 15, 2014, Derrick married Joy Stevenson. In April 2015, he suffered a small stroke and was discovered alone on the floor of his home. He was unable to move his legs or arms on the left side of his body, but he quickly recovered. He and his wife have a 6-year-old child called Dillon. Derrick participated in 'Celebrity Family Feud' alongside his brother and mother in 2015.

Anthony Anderson, surprise his buddy and brother with a renovation of his home with the aid of Property Brothers. Together, the three restore his home, changing it from a run-down structure to a high-end, elegant modern residence. Anthony informs the Property Brothers that Derrick was on the front lines during the coronavirus pandemic. The Property Brothers repair the house's leaking roof and install a contemporary heating and ventilation system. Anthony assists the brothers with deconstruction and cleans the tiles with slick flooring.

Anthony commissioned the Property Brothers to renovate his brother's 1000 square foot antiquated property into a modern, high-end, elegant family home. He requested them to modify the house's lighting and windows. The brothers immediately realized that there were several leaks in the house. Anthony demonstrated to the Brothers the house's ancient, broken-down heating system. He also exhibited to them a shattered kitchen window that had not been fixed in two years. The bathroom and kitchen both had a lot of space. The property brothers repainted the home with a light hue and replaced the roof of the house. The old roof had three layers of tiles but was decaying, so it had to be removed and replaced. They also had to replace the existing beams to make the house appear larger. They updated the bathroom with high-style porcelain tiles and a new sink. The property brothers then refurbished the family galley and installed a banquette in the kitchen. They installed a new HVAC system in the house and picked dark oak cabinets to contrast with the caramel countertops. Drew and Jonathan Scott also created a family wall in the living area using all the family images. Anthony assisted the 'Celebrity IOU' duo with the destruction. He took down the kitchen cabinetry and the tiles in the living room. He also assisted them in selecting the house's tiles.

Fans of 'Celebrity IOU' were startled to discover the state of Derrick Bowman's home. The three-person family was living in a 1000-square-foot home with faulty lighting. The roof was also deteriorating, and the heating system was broken. The residence had a damaged window that had not been fixed in two years. There were several water leaks throughout the house. 'Celebrity IOU' fans and Anthony Anderson admirers were shocked at his brother's living conditions. One of them tweeted: "I'm trying to refrain from cussing Anthony Anderson out through this screen, but damn! How are you bragging about being close to your brother & having functions at his house like he doesn't live in a little hut? I know his family said something before now. #CelebrityIOU"

Fans attacked the poor circumstances in which he was living. His home was small, with only one bathroom and a damaged window. The kitchen was crowded, and the heating system was broken. There were several water leaks throughout the house. Fans chastised Anthony Anderson for allowing his brother to live in such deplorable conditions while having a net worth of $25 million. An enraged fan wrote: "Anthony. You, with all your millions and connections, let your essential worker blood-related brother and his whole family live in a one-bathroom, 1000 square foot shanty that is barely held together by rope and duct tape? #CelebrityIOU"

They continued stating how someone worth millions could do much better than this restoration: "Anthony Anderson, with your good fortune, the least you can do is build an entire second-floor add-on for your essential worker brother and his family. Or at least add a second bathroom. Damn. I cannot believe you. #CelebrityIOU"

Another fan was shocked to see how Derrick's mother and brother could allow him to live in such conditions without intervening: "#celebrityiou I'm stunned that @anthonyanderson and his mother let his brother live in a house with a broken window for 2 years. #Unbelievable"

Fans shame Anthony for having let his brother live in such a condition: "Nah, @anthonyanderson should be embarrassed the way he had his brother living #celebrityIOU"
