'BTS vs BTS': Global K-pop group get 7 nominations in 6 categories at 2022 BBMAs
BTS is really out here breaking records domestically, as well as internationally. After becoming the first Korean act to be nominated twice and performing solo and in-person at the Grammys, we had all of Las Vegas welcoming BTS for their four-day concert by turning purple which is the official color of the global K-pop group. And now, right on the day of their first Vegas concert, the BBMAs 2022 have announced their nominations.
On April 8, the 2022 Billboard Music Awards shared that BTS had been nominated seven times. It was further impressive as the boys were nominated in six categories which means in one category, two of their songs were competing against each other. Last year, in 2021, BTS got their most nominations ever with four nods and won all four awards. Well, this year, they have been nominated seven times which is their personal best. Additionally, they have also been nominated for the ‘Top Duo/Group’ award for four years in a row and won in 2019 and 2021.

BTS compete against each other in same BBMAs category
BTS truly is in the big leagues as they are nominated alongside Western stars like Adele, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran and more. The group has been nominated for ‘Top Duo/Group’, ‘Top Song Sales Artist’, ‘Top Global Excl US Artist’, ‘Top Global Excl US Song’ for ‘Butter’, ‘Top Rock Song’ for ‘My Universe’ along with Coldplay. They have also been nominated twice for ‘Top Selling Song’ for their songs ‘Butter’ and ‘Permission to Dance’.
This makes them the most nominated group at the 2022 BBMAs. With seven being their lucky number as they have seven members, fans are further proud that BTS got seven nominations. It should also be noted that BTS was first acknowledged in 2017 by the BBMAs by being nominated for the Top Social Artist’ award which they won. This particular category has now been removed making them the only Korean act to win this award.
‘No one’s doing it like BTS'
Fans cheered as they trended several phrases as they tweeted, “Bts started with a top social artist nomination and after that expanded their award shelf with multiple awards each year, its been 5 years and still no group managed to achieve what they have achieved these past few years. thats what you call an organic growth.” Another ARMY posted, “7 NOMINATIONS without releasing the new album!!..YESS.” One fan shared, “Bts has 7 billboard nominations this year and it’s the 7 again! no one’s doing it like bts.” ARMY also made reaction memes for BTS competing against each other in the same category.
