While fans were joking that Blackpink’s hiatus might be of the same duration as the mandatory military service of South Korean males, it is turning out to be true. Blinks (Blackpink's fandom) went on to trend that they wanted a comeback which led to YG's stock prices dropping twice. Fans also took extreme measures like boycotting Blackpink's merch which led to YG finally releasing reports of a comeback. A supposedly leaked report of YG’s plans for 2022 stated that Blackpink would have a comeback in the first half of 2022 followed by a world tour.

It was then allegedly postponed to an undisclosed date with Jisoo and Jennie assuring fans that Blackpink would indeed be coming back. Well, that too was again reportedly postponed to May 2022, with angry fans pointing out that the global girl group was a music group first and foremost, yet they only had 21 songs and one studio album in their career of six years. Since their last comeback in October 2020, Blackpink has been doing everything from modeling to acting and releasing merch except releasing new music which has frustrated fans. And now with a new rumored comeback date, fans are not having it.

Blackpink rumored to come back after summer 2022

Just four days after the news that Blackpink was supposed to have a May comeback, on February 28, some reports cropped up on Twitter that claimed that the global girl group would be having a comeback “after this summer.” With summer lasting in South Korea from June to August, if the rumors turn out to be true, Blackpink might have a comeback after August which means that Blackpink's ongoing hiatus will be for 1 year and 10 months. The report also claims that the comeback was postponed “until they could do a global tour in parallel.”

'Is this real'

Fans are not having it anymore as many reiterate that they will only believe it when they see comeback teasers. One Blink tweeted, “Since when artist do a comeback only when they can safety perform at tour?? you could've just gave them a comeback in the 4th quarter of last year and another comeback this summer... you've done this before with your bgs but with bp you can't??? f**k that company honestly.” Fans also made posts like, “Im so tired,” and “I wont believe anything until i see the teasers 🙂 f**k u yg.”

Many also thought the news was fake as they made tweets like, “Is this real???? I'm tired of CB news that was later followed by a delay news,” “Not y'all believing this,” and “If there is no exact date, that news is a prank.” One Blink joked whether Blackpink themselves knew, “Do they know?” Another added, “Finally the girl group is girl group-ing.” One commented, “After the summer... It means we will definitely get it till next year.”
