LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ is in no mood to stop and continues its golden run at the box office by shattering all expectations. The film, which is a sequel to the original ‘Avatar’ movie, was destined to be a blockbuster but some people believe that it might not be able to replicate the success of the first one, recent figures have shown that it is doing much better than the 2009 movie and saw a box office drop of 0% in its third weekend. The continued box office success of ‘The Way of Water’ has made the movie enter the Top 15 grossing films of all-time list, overtaking ‘Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows: Part 2’ and ‘Black Panther’.

As per Box Office Mojo, the movie earned $86.3 million over the four-day New Year’s weekend and delivered the third-biggest New Year’s Day haul of all time by earning $24 million, taking its worldwide total to a staggering sum of $1.4 billion. The figures mean that it is now the 14th highest-grossing movie of all time and surpassed films like ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi’, ‘Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows: Part 2’ and ‘Black Panther’.

‘The Last Jedi’ has now dropped to #17 with global earnings of $1.33 billion while ‘The Deathly Hollows: Part 2’ now holds 16th position with $1.34 billion. On the other hand, ‘The Way of Water’ also passed another iconic blockbuster such as ‘Black Panther’ ($1.38 billion) to enter the coveted list.

With these latest trends, it is estimated that the second movie in the ‘Avatar’ saga will soon surpass the lifetime earnings of ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ ($1.402 billion) and ‘Frozen II’ ($1.45 billion) to become the 12th highest-grossing movie of all-time. It is interesting to see that the movie needs to earn another $114 million to enter the Top 10 and if it does, Cameron will become the first director to have three movies in the Top 10 highest-grossing movies of all-time list. ‘Avatar’ reigns supreme on the list and currently holds the #1 spot ($2.92 billion) while ‘Titanic’ sits comfortably on the 3rd ($2.20 billion).
