LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: James Cameron's 'Avatar: The Way of Water' continues to breathe life into the global box office by raking in big numbers overseas and it's in no mood to stop. The movie, which sees Jake Sully trying to protect his family from the Sky people, has now crossed a major milestone and ended the year on a high. As per the latest figures, 'The Way of Water' is now the highest-grossing movie of 2022 internationally, over-taking 'Top Gun: Maverick' in just 16 days.

It doesn't come as a shock that the 'The Way of Water' continues to reign supreme at the box office and has already broken so many records since its release. The movie is now the third title to earn more than $1 billion globally and the fastest movie of 2022 to do so. Cameron's BIG BLUE SAGA continues to be a force to be reckoned with overseas and added close $50 million to become the highest-grossing movie of 2022 international.

According to Box Office Mojo, the movie earned over $48 million from international markets on Thursday and took its overseas cume to $810.6 million, to overtake 'Top Gun: Maverick' as the #1 international release of 2022. The biggest contributors to the movie's massive success have been China, South Korea, France, India, Germany, the UK, Australia, and Italy. With these figures, the movie has left behind 'Top Gun: Maverick' to become the highest-grossing movie internationally. 'Maverick' made over $770mmillionavatar overseas during its theatrical run.

The latest figures also reveal that China continues to be one of the biggest markets for 'Avatar 2' despite the rising cases of Covid-19 and earned $115.8 million, followed by France with $81.6 million. Meanwhile, Korea ($61.6 million), Germany ($57.7 million), UK ($45.1 million) and India ($43.8 million) are the other top 4 markets where the movie continues to rake in money.
Internationally, the movie is showing no signs of slowing down and with less competition we can expect it to earn a large amount of money in the coming weeks as well.

'Avatar: The Way of Water’ is set a decade after the events of the first film and tells the story of the Sully family and the troubles that follow them. The family will do anything to keep each other safe and they fight the battle to keep the entire tribe safe from the wrath of humans. The movie sees Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana returning as Jake Sully and Neytiri. Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang also return as Kiri and Colonel Miles Quaritch. On the other hand, actors such as Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Jamie Flatters, and Britain Dalton join the movie as the new cast members.

The film currently has a critic rating of 78% and an audience rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

'Avatar: The Way of Water' is currently playing in theatres.
