'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' trends as fans call film a masterpiece, but naysayers say it's 'the worst'
The sequel trilogy of 'Star Wars' has always received much backlash. While 'The Force Awakens' has steered clear of such flak, 'The Last Jedi' was trashed by many and 'The Rise Of Skywalker' was considered a sacrilege to the franchise that had united fandoms for over 30 years. The sequel trilogy saw Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, take over from Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill.
While the opinions about 'The Rise Of Skywalker' was more or less unanimous, 'The Last Jedi' has always left fans divided. Recently, the 'Star Wars' fandom kicked up a huge debate again on the film, with many defending filmmaker Rian Johnson and others saying that 'Star Wars' ended in 1983 with 'The Return Of The Jedi'. The conversation began after a fan account asked people to discuss their favorite scene from the film.
"The Last Jedi? Please. "Star Wars" ended in 1983 with the release of "Return of the Jedi." The original trilogy. The true original trilogy before Lucas ruined his own masterpieces with unnecessary new scenes and music. I feel sorry for those who never have seen them," an angry fan tweeted.
Another called 'The Last Jedi' a 'cinematic masterpiece' and that it did not deserve the hatred fans had doled out to it. Others admitted that it was the best in the sequel trilogy, but couldn't come close to the original films. "The Last Jedi was the best of the new trilogy and it’s not even close to being near the same level as the original movies," a fan tweeted.
"Rian Johnson does not nearly get enough credit for the work he put into this film. The Last Jedi is single handedly the best of the sequel trilogy and one of the best Star Wars movies to date. People have to stop hating on it because it’s different. This scene is beyond legendary!" Another wrote.
"The Last Jedi is trending and I'm so happy because it's all really positive and I literally TLJ is my favorite star wars movie and the best star wars movie imo and it's so nice seeing it not getting hate for once
"The force awakens did a great job of solidifying the star wars "formula" imo and last jedi was pretty enjoyable imo, but i think where it mostly shined was its visuals i uh i honestly don't know what to say about rise of Skywalker," a fan wrote.
Of course, there were others who called it 'the worst' in the series. "The Last Jedi is trending so let me use this opportunity to say it's the worst film in the Skywalker Saga imo. Worse than Rise of Skywalker, and even the Phantom Menace. That being said, I read Legends and don't even care about the Disney canon so idrc about it overall." Many believed that it is the death-knell of the series. "The last Jedi made me hate Star Wars. It's the worst movie in the entire series and it threw away so much potential that was built up. People still feel the need to bring up this movie and say it's good as if they need their opinion validated. It f**king sucks," a fan wrote.
Do you really think that 'Star Wars: the Last Jedi' deserves so much hate?
