Looks like another idol is causing concern amongst fans when it comes to her weight. IVE members have been in the news way before their debut considering the popularity of Yujin and Wonyoung who were formerly known as members of  disbanded girl group IZ*ONE. From fans talking about how Wonyoung resembled Blackpink’s Jennie or trolls talking about how she appeared to have a bad attitude as IVE was set to make their debut, the IVE member has been going viral every single day.

Wonyoung is presently rocking charts with IVE’s second single ‘Love Dive’ as well as her very successful solo gig as an MC for ‘Music Bank’. Now, with the popularity of Wonyoung herself as well as the Starship Entertainment girl group IVE sky-soaring, Wonyoung’s weight has become a pressing issue. It was only two days ago that Midzys (fans of ITZY) and fans of K-pop, in general, were concerned about ITZY’s Yuna.

Wonyoung’s skinny thighs cause concern about her weight

A photo was being circulated online where Yuna appeared dancing on stage wearing a crop top and shorts that revealed her hollowed stomach and a visible ribcage. This led to fans worrying whether the ITZY member was being overworked or forced to lose weight by being put on a diet. Now, another viral picture reveals IVE’s Wonyoung having extremely thin thighs that seem dangerously skinny at first glance, and had fans wondering about the 17-year-old singer's health.

In the photo that went viral on April 28, news outlets began talking about Wonyoung’s skinny figure as well as her clean-cut 11-line abs. Not only that but the image also revealed Wonyoung’s thighs that were too skinny for a girl of her height and age. While some fans are lauding the singer for showing a perfect figure as they call her a ‘skinny legend’, other fans are genuinely concerned as they worry about her decreasing weight.

Are female idols forced to go on extreme diets?

This discussion is also adding to the concern amongst fans over the weight of female idols. While it is not a shocker that idols are put under strict diets to maintain a certain body type, it is more common for female idols to be scrutinized over their weight than male idols. Fans are pointing out that female idols have it harder than male idols due to constant attention being paid to minor changes in their body weight. In March 2022, Wonyoung’s bandmates, Liz and Rei, were also trolled for having allegedly gained weight while NMIXX’s Jiwoo was called overweight.

Trolls online have also not kept silent about TWICE’s Jeongyeon, who is suffering from a medical issue that has led her to gain weight. Fans of all these idols have promptly shut down the hate but now as the issue around IVE’s Wonyoung has surfaced, some fans claim that the concern is misguided as Wonyoung is perfectly healthy. Fans are also bringing out idol Somi’s statement when the singer was questioned about her weight by fans as she reassured them saying, “ Work out every day and eat a lot at the same time I'm healthy.”

'I want to protect Wonyoung'

Fans have been discussing the issue online where one fan said, "People jump to conclusion like they did with Somi where she had to come forward and say “I work out everyday and eat a lot at the same time I'm healthy” we all know that Wonyoung works out and do pilates every day she's naturally skinny since produce 48 plus she's more taller now." One user said, "Isn't Wonyoung like a witch who looks really skinny?!?! I'm sure when she hit something, her body will crumble. LOL," as a troll mocked TWICE's Jeongyeon's weight. One fan said, "Ive's wonyoung is so skinny I'm actually concerned."

Another fan said, "As a skinny person, i relate to lisa, rosé and wonyoung sm.. we tell people we're naturally skinny, they tell us we're anorexic and we are sick. mf wtf do you know?" One user said, "I have just learned of who is Wonyoung is, and I want to protect the bby. But what really concerns me is… how extremely skinny she is. And she’s only 17?"

One fan claimed, "Kpop girlgroups have it way harder in the kpop scene than bg's do. And you can wrd me on that. Down to crazy male fans, to monthly cycles, harsh eating periods and getting hated for their body image. Anything you think of they get hated for and its sad." One user countered, "I agree but when it comes to harsh eating periods, crazy fans and being hated for body image a lot of bg members suffers through the too. first person coming to my mind being jimin of bts." One fan countered, "But the general rule is that ggs take it harder, plus they should keep even lower weight than male idols, even if both have similar heights. Girls should be way below 50kg, while if boys are below 55kg it's already alarming for the fans."
