LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: It was heartbreaking day for DC fans as it was revealed that Henry Cavill won't be returning to play the Man of Steel in the DC Universe. In a bombshell announcement, James Gunn, the new creative head of DC Studios, revealed that he is writing a new 'Superman' movie that will primarily focus on the "earlier part" of the character's life.

With this announcement, Gunn also noted that Henry Cavill won't be returning for the role because of the story they are writing. A few moments later, Cavill also shared a heart-breaking statement where he noted that he would always be thankful to play such an iconic character in his career. Even though he wished all the best to Gunn and his team for the future, he also made it clear that it was one of the saddest days of his life.

As soon as the news of Cavill's exit surfaced online, angry fans flooded social media and bashed the DC Studios for the baffling decision. Fans also noted that they won't be watching DC movies now because of Cavill's exit.

One of the fans wrote, "Fantastic job of killing the coming DC movies before your new universe starts because there are 0 reasons to go watch those anymore. Characters won't be continued, Ezra isn't booted and won't be continued so f the flash. Amber isn't booted and Jason won't be continued so f*** that." Another fan wrote, "I had high hopes for you and DC. Now, I won't watch any of your DC movies."

"I am a big superhero fan...I love #DC and #MARVEL both. But after hearing the news of Henry Cavill that he is not returning as #Superman...I won't watch any #DC movies in the future. Thank you @JamesGunn and @wbpictures for taking this decision," tweeted another social media user. "No SUPERMAN film will ever touch MAN OF STEEL. I’m open to this happening & maybe it will one day decades from now. But nope," wrote another user.

Another social media user tweeted, "If I were Henry Cavill right now, I'd be so angry, so embarrassed, and probably firing my manager and agency right now. This really could damage the dude's career, he just dropped Witcher too. Would he of done that if he knew Superman wasn't coming?"

The statement that was shared by Cavill on his official Instagram account felt like it came straight from his heart and how bad he was feeling that he won't be playing the iconic comic-book character.

"After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to [Gunn and Safran’s] hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes," Cavill posted on Instagram.

The news of his exit comes a few weeks aftee it was revealed that Cavill will be back as Superman and a sequel to 'Man of Steel' is in development. The actor was really excited to play the character again and take the world by storm. However, this won't be happening now.

It's sad that he won't be coming back as Superman as well as Geralt and it's truly heartbreaking for the fans.
