Sethward revealed during his Season 16 audition that he has auditioned for the program four times, despite the fact that this was only his third broadcast audition. Sethward is the first artist to get through the auditions, despite earning more than one buzzer since French Accent in Season 13. Sethward is the first act to go to the quarterfinals since Aaralyn & Izzy in Season 8 despite garnering many buzzes in their audition. Sethward is the only artist that received positive feedback during his Season 16 audition, but did not advance to the quarterfinals. In the Season 16 live events, Sethward was the first artist to generate attention. Sethward is the third of four broadcast artists to have fallen off the stage during their audition. Primitivo Montoya, Metatron, and Keith Apicary are the other three. Sethward had the most audition round eliminations of any performer, however, he made the Quarterfinals in a subsequent season. Sethward has auditioned for the program four times, the most of any performer in the show's history. When Sethward was in his The Big Apple character in Season 17 and was buzzed out, he became the first act in auditions history to perform last and not progress, marking the first time in auditions history that an act that closes the show fails to advance. Sethward was buzzed a total of 15 times during his stint on the program, the most for an individual participant in the game's history. Simon Cowell was the judge who gave him the most individual buzzes.

On December 31, 2007, Terry also performed an early family New Year's Eve event at 6 pm. Terry secured a five-year, $100 million contract to perform weekly at The Mirage in Las Vegas on May 13, 2008.
