'American Idol' fans roast Kennedy Reid's 'costumey' Reba cover as 'Honey Boo Boo' moment

Kennedy Reid's idea to wear the largest wig she has and show off her rebellious side backfires with 'American Idol' Season 22 viewers

HONOLULU, HAWAII: Kennedy Reid sang Reba McEntire's 'Fancy' on the 'American Idol' Season 22 stage while wearing a cowboy hat. However, the ABC show adaptation felt "too much" for home viewers.

Kennedy, a 23-year-old from New Albany, Indiana, sang Reba's 'Fancy' on the April 8 episode of the ABC program. What a beautiful song! Fans were hopeful she could pull it off!

Kennedy stated that she was wearing the largest wig she owned and couldn't wait to show off her feisty side. She then grabbed the microphone stand and rocked out to this song.

However, fans seemed to be not on board with all of what she has to offer as one viewer took to X, to write, "My least favorites from this group are Mackenzie & Kennedy. #AmericanIdol I feel like she is going to last long though because the fans love country music." While another user chimed in, "Think my bottom 4 that id send home this week are KBlocks, Kennedy, Jennifer, and Blake." 

One user likened the singer to a TLC star, "Kennedy is giving honey boo boo." A fourth user tweeted, "It's cool that the #AmericanIdol judges and Jelly like Kennedy but I don't see what they see They keep trying to do what #TheVoice has been doing for many more seasons, but it just feels more authentic somehow how The Voice does it (and Serenity SLAYED."

Some users also weren't happy with the rendition, writing, "Kennedy Reid shit the bed. She tried to make the song Fancy about empowerment, when it's a song about a woman pimping her daughter out to rich men." Another person added, "Kennedy Reid (Ironically, Reba's "Fancy") - Attitude BUT it felt a little costumey and too MUCH." 

One user quipped, "Kennedy Reid looks like a bridal party doing karaoke in Nashville." Some user sighed, "sadly kennedy will be there awhile.. country idol after all." 

Idol judges claim America will be 'obsessed with' Kennedy Reid

The judges appeared stunned! Katy Perry believes America will be infatuated with Kennedy and stated, "Thank God America is voting tonight." "I think America is obsessed with you," Katy said.

Lionel Richie said, "You killed it!" Luke Bryan stated that witnessing her confidence increase excites them more than anything.

Jelly Roll stated, "Tonight, I see a full-blown superstar."

Who is Kennedy Reid on 'American Idol' Season 22?

Kennedy began singing when she was a tiny child. She never imagined that working at a funeral home would lead to a career in country music.

The 23-year-old is now on her path to fulfilling her ambition of becoming a country music star.

The 23-year-old mortician from New Albany, Indiana, whose day job is an embalmer at a Louisville funeral home's buddy of a friend sent Kennedy's demo tape to the famed televised music competition, and she still can't believe she was invited to audition for the show's judges.

Her path to the 'American Idol' stage is reminiscent of a fairytale. Kennedy grew raised in Sellersburg, Indiana, and went to Silver Creek High School.

After high school, she enrolled in a mortuary college to become a funeral director and embalmer. She began singing in public as a youngster for nursing home residents, and later became a frequent performer and host at the Grand Ole Country Music Show in West Point, Kentucky.

How do fans vote for 'American Idol' Season 22 Top 20?

ABC reports that viewers can cast votes for their favorite 'American Idol' season 22 participant in three simple ways. Voters can text, use the 'American Idol' app, or cast their ballots online at AmericanIdol.com/vote.

To cast a vote on ABC.com or the 'American Idol' app, fans must be at least 16 years old and reside in the United States, Puerto Rico, or the Virgin Islands. Voters who prefer text messaging should text the competitor's number to "21523."

Each contestant's number appeared on-screen when voting opened throughout the episodes.

Fans need to have an ABC account before they can cast their votes on AmericanIdol.com/vote or through the 'American Idol' app. Users can sign up by providing their email address.

Additionally, fans must download and install the 'American Idol' app on a compatible device in order to cast their votes via the app, which is available in the App Store and Google Play Store. If they haven't already, fans who already have the app should update it.
