Episode nine of ‘American Idol’ Season 20 got enough drama to keep the fans hooked to their screens. The latest titled ‘Showstoppers’ aired after the contestants performed in the duets round in the previous episode. The ‘Showstoppers’ episode saw singers once again take the stage but this time with a band with an intention to secure a spot in the coveted Top 24 list.

Singers namely Ava Maybee and Yoli Mayor performed ‘Falling’ by Harry Styles and ‘Human’ by Rum Gold respectively. The performance of both the crooners got Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan confused. And, in order to clear the matter, the trio decided to go for the very first sing-off of the season giving them one last chance on the spot to grab a place in the Top 24. According to Katy, Ava’s voice was more marketable whereas Richie vouched for Yoli. In the end, the trio picked Ava leaving several ‘American Idol’ fans stunned. Talking about losing the spot in the Top 24, Yoli on Instagram stated, “I may not have made it to the Top 24 but I've grown in ways I never thought possible! You literally haven't heard the last of me yet!”

Social media users flocked to Twitter to share their valuable opinion on why Yoli deserved to steer ahead instead of Ava. “Yoli all the way over Ava…. Sad to see it was the other way around”, said one user as another posted, “Yoli was robbed. I could listen to her voice all day. Ava, not so much.”  One user shared, “Predictable a blondes advances while yoli doesn’t.” The next one added, “Yoli would have been my choice! Love her voice!” Another person mentioned, “So sad to see Yoli, Sam and Betty go! It’s hard losing so much talent at once”, as another concluded, “Why bring up ava with cameron but judge her with yoli... makes no sense... they are keeping ava clearly.”
