Who is Ava Maybee?
As mentioned earlier, Ava is the daughter of famous drummer Chad Smith, but that isn't her only claim to fame. This 21-year-old is already slowly but steadily making waves in the music industry. She has already dropped three singles- 'Lay Low' in 2020, 'See Me Now', and 'Colors' in 2021. She also released the music video for 'Lay Low' and 'See Me Now' on her YouTube channel. Her efforts seem to have paid off, as 'Lay Low' managed to amass over 500,000 streams on Spotify!
She has also performed the national anthem for the Lakers and Dodgers Games. According to her website, she has been singing and performing since the age of five. Due to her scoliosis, she had to give up dancing. She underwent spinal fusion surgery to address her spinal issue. She's currently a junior at NYU. Her website also shared that she was selected to participate in the prestigious NYU/ TISCH/ Clive Davis School of Music High School Program. She was also selected for Interlochen's Songwriter and Rock Program at Grammy Camp's Vocal Performance camp.
Ava cites classic soul, rock, and Motown Music as her inspiration, and names Amy Winehouse, Sam Cooke, Leon Bridges, Adele, Janis Joplin, and Carole King as her favorite artists. We can't wait to see Ava's journey on 'American Idol'.
