'American Idol' Season 20: Noah Thompson's 'angel' Arthur Johnson signed him up for show
The much-awaited 'American Idol' Season 20 kicked off with 19-year-old Noah Thompson's audition. While we were fully prepared to be blown away by the impeccable vocals from the first audition of the season, we weren't prepared to get emotional watching Noah's audition.
Noah, a construction worker from Louisa, Kentucky, revealed that he was initially against the idea of auditioning for the ABC show, but it was his friend Arthur Johnson who signed him up for the show. He then proceeded to give a jaw-dropping performance to 'Giving You Up' by Kameron Marlowe. By the end of his performance, the judges- Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, were lost for words as they scrambled to find the right adjectives to describe his performance. When Noah was asked why he was hesitant to audition for the show, Noah revealed that he wasn't confident about his singing talent.

Thankfully Noah's friend/ co-worker Arthur recognized Noah's gift and signed him up for the ABC show. Arthur pointed out that Noah was born with great talent and even if he couldn't recognize it or was confident about it, others around him noticed it including himself. So Arthur recorded Noah's performance and sent in for 'American Idol' audition. The judges and fans were touched by Arthur and Noah's friendship. Lionel labeled Arthur and Noah's angel, while Luke joked that he should become Noah's manager. They all said yes to Noah's performance and handed him the golden ticket to Hollywood!
Fans couldn't stop praising the duo's friendship and Noah's performance. A fan tweeted, "Noah and Arthur got me tearing up. It's always nice to have a friend who believes in us more than we believe in ourselves. Noah is going to Hollywood! I hope he makes it far. I like his humility. #AmericanIdol #AmericanIdol2022 #Idol #IdolPremiere." Another fan wrote, "We stan Arthur and all friends like him! #AmericanIdol."
