How did Aretha Franklin die? Tragic story of ‘Queen of Soul’ and the mix of trauma and triumph in her life

Who is Grace Franklin?

As mentioned above, Grace Franklin is the youngest granddaughter of the Queen of Soul aka Aretha Franklin. The 16-year-old Detroit native's singing voice definitely proves that music runs in her family's blood. Grace was only 15 when she auditioned for 'American Idol'. However, the ABC singing competition show isn't her first stint on television. She was part of Detroit Youth Choir, the group that won 'America's Got Talent' Season 14.

Grace received a lot of public attention when she sang her grandmother's favorite song 'Ain’t No Way' with Jennifer Hudson at the movie premiere of Aretha's biopic 'Respect'. Jennifer shared the video of Grace's performance on social media and it immediately went viral. Jennifer wrote, "Grace Franklin sings ‘Ain’t No Way’ at Respect premiere. What better what to celebrate Aretha Franklin than for her granddaughter @gfranklin61 to sing her song at the film premiere? She would be so proud!” Grace regularly pays her respect to her grandmother on her social media posts aside from sharing brief clips of her singing various songs. Aside from Grace, Aretha has two other grandchildren, Jordan Franklin and Victorie Franklin, who are musicians as well.

With such a rich musical legacy in her genes, we are sure Grace's performance will be one to watch out for. We can't wait to watch the teenager's performance on 'American Idol' Season 20. "This season, viewers will embark on a nationwide search across Nashville, Tennessee, Austin, Texas, and Los Angeles, California, where the show’s iconic judge auditions will surprise audiences and hopefuls alike with never-before-seen twists and a first-ever Platinum ticket winner," states the show's synopsis.

'American Idol' Season 20 premieres on February 27, 2022, at 8/7c, only on ABC.
