Will ex-Miss America Betty Maxwell win 'American Idol'? Here's why fans think so
When 27-year-old Betty Maxwell walked onto the 'American Idol' stage to audition for a spot on the show's Season 20, little did she know the impact that she would have not just on the show's judges but also fans. After watching the former Miss America pageant winner croon to Kelly Clarkson's 'A Moment Like This' and Carrie Underwood's 'Jesus, Take the Wheel', fans were convinced that the beauty queen might be the new 'American Idol' winner.
Betty's buttery-smooth vocals left the judges- Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan in awe. Luke pointed out how most of the pageant queens sing in a certain way, but he pointed out how Betty sang like a real singer and not like a pageant queen. The Georgia native kicked off her performance with former 'American Idol' winner Kelly's song, Katy was curious to see if Betty could sing country songs as well. So, Betty performed to Carrie's popular song 'Jesus, Take the Wheel'. By the end of her performance, the judges and fans were hard-pressed to find a flaw in her performance. The judges handed her a golden ticket to Hollywood, and fans are already rooting for her to win the singing competition.
