'American Idol' fans were amused watching Katy's hilarious wardrobe malfunction and the quick fix

Amidst all the nervousness and tension of Hollywood Week, Katy Perry ended up providing some much-needed comic relief on the recently aired episode of 'American Idol'. The judge decided to let her hair down and have some fun by organizing a sing-along to her songs. 

Katy ended up getting a little too carried away while performing her hit number 'Teenage Dream' and ended up ripping her pants. The judge's orange pants ended up coming apart. Even though Katy realized that she was having a wardrobe malfunction on stage, the singer continued to perform and ended it by candidly calling out for help. Her fellow judge Luke Bryan and the production team came to her rescue with bright yellow tape.

Luke and the team got to work immediately and plastered the tape on Katy's pants to cover the rip, leaving a giant 'X' on Katy's back. Fans were amused watching Katy's hilarious wardrobe malfunction and the quick fix. Several fans took to Twitter to joke about it. A fan tweeted, "Katy Perry doing very Katy Perry things #AmericanIdol." "Omg haha so funny Katy Perry ripped her pants #AmericanIdol," wrote a fan. "Can you believe Katy and SpongeBob have a thing in common… ripping pants," joked a fan.

Katy too took the whole incident in her stride and posted a cheeky tweet about her pant-rip situation. She shared, "I'ma get ur heart racing in my skin-tight jeans on #americanidol tonight tune in now for a RIPPING good time." Some fans however weren't all that amused with the judge's shenanigans and began wondering how she managed to rip her pants every season. A fan commented, "How does @katyperry manage to flash the cameras or split her pants every season of american idol." Another fan expressed, "It isn’t American idol if your pants don’t rip at least once."
