Billboard Top Artist of the Decade: Katy Perry in shocking #8 as Taylor Swift gets dumped at #10 in Country genre
As we draw nearer to the annual Billboard Music Awards for 2020, we get a clearer picture of the top artists, albums, and songs. So far, Katy Perry has been announced on January 4 as the closest scorer, clinching the slot at No. 8, to the Top Artist winner of the 2010s.
The top overall ten acts which include various genres of the decade will continue to be revealed, and additionally, the top ten touring acts will also be announced. On January 7, Billboard announced Maroon 5's ranking at No. 9, and Post Malone received a rank at No. 10 in early December.
The complete list of rankings will be revealed on the Billboard Music Awards which is set to air LIVE on April 29, on NBC at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
On November 14, Billboard published the overall latter portion of top artists ranking at Nos. 11 through 100 for the 2010s, among numerous decade-ender charts, as well as the Nos. 11 through 50 top artists on charts of country, rock, R&B/ hip-hop, Latin, Christian, gospel, dance/electronic and touring, thus encompassing every genre.
Artists at Nos. 10 through 6 for each recap are being revealed monthly, until the awards ceremony when the topper No. 1 for each category will be announced from among the five finalists. The No. 7 in each category, following Katy Perry's ranking, will be revealed on March 3.
Perry has accumulated a total of 11 top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 in the past decade, which include eight No. 1 wins. The American pop artist gained recognition as being the first woman, and the second-ever overall (after Michael Jackson's 'Bad') to have five Hot 100 No. 1s. The five songs were all from her 2010 LP 'Teenage Dream'.
Perry debuted three albums, 'Teenage Dream, 'PRISM' and 'Witness', on the Billboard 200 chart during the decade, and each of the three opened at No. 1.
On the other hand, Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Funk!' which features Bruno Mars takes the lead as No. 1 song of the 2010s for the Hot 100's chart and Adele's studio LP '21' rules as the Billboard 200's top decade-end album.
Each decade-ender No. 8 scorers were revealed on January 4.
