'American Idol' 2023: Katy Perry slammed as 'jealous' for deeming Paige Anne 'not ready'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Paige Anne, 16, took the 'American Idol' stage by storm with her cover of 'What About Us' by Pink. Paige, who is currently in 10th grade, has been singing since 8th grade and has had experience singing with stars like Alex Boye and David Archuleta.
Although her talent impressed judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, Katy Perry seemed to hold back. She said that she was "not ready" and needed to come back with better training. Paige came to her audition all confident and had three Sour Patch Snow Cones with her for the judges. The icy desert caused Lionel's brain to freeze, but he didn't seem to mind and continued with her audition while still snacking.

Katy Perry says Paige Anne is 'not ready'
Paige sang a cover of 'What About Us' by Pink and when she hit the last high note, Katy's face looked very impressed. She likened her audition to the iced dessert the contestant put in front of them. She said that the "end stuff," where Paige demonstrated her vocal range with a difficult riff, was the "sour patch" of the entire audition. She went on to explain that Paige made the song special with her personal touch. "The beginning," Katy continued, "was just ice with no flavor added." Even at the beginning of the audition, Katy thought that Paige might not be ready, but the ending made her doubt if she really is. But Katy reiterated her opinion by saying that as judges of 'American Idol' they did not let '50-50' through, to which Lionel agreed. all the judges seemed undecided, but finally Lionel and Luke gave her the coveted 'yes' and a golden ticket. Katy stood by her opinion, saying, "I don't think you're ready. It's a no from me."
'Katy is just jealous'
Fans absolutely loved Paige's voice and showered her with encouraging comments on the 'American Idol' preview of her audition on YouTube. One said, "She is adorable and so humble at a young age. Even David Archuleta appreciates her talent which speaks volumes. I believe she can become top ten." Another said, "sour patch! really liked the voice, glad she went through." But most of the comments were directed at Katy for being jealous. One user said, "Katy says yes to the worse singers shes mad because a 16 year old has a better voice without signing a contract to the overlords lmfao." Another user commented, "Katy perry was just jealous...she sang great." Another fan one commented, "Wtf Katie?? Not the right choice." Another one said, She was very very excellent. i disagreed totally with the judges assessments."
