Platinum ticket holder Jay Copeland was saved by the skin of his teeth on the previous episode of 'American Idol' Season 20. After failing to amass enough votes from the audience, Jay was put in the danger zone at the risk of elimination after his Top 20 round performance. Luckily for him, the judges decided to give him another chance and put him through to the Top 14 round.

Determined to showcase his vocal prowess and show that the judges made the right choice by taking a chance on him, Jay took to the stage and began performing to Bruno Mars' 'Just the Way You Are'. With guest mentor Gaby Barrett's help, Jay fine-tuned his performance and stepped onto the stage ready to impress the judges. Lionel Richie loved Jay's song choice and lauded the young performer for finally picking the right song. The other judges, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan too appreciated his performance. Though the audience will be deciding the fate of Jay's future on the singing competition yet again, unfortunately for him, fans doesn't seem to be a huge fan of his performance.

Jay has a voice but no control. #AmericanIdol." "Ill be honest... Jay has a really nice voice, but Jay really does nothing for me. And thats saying something, because R&B is my favorite genre. I just think he tries to do too much with every performance. He bores me #AmericanIdol," wrote a fan. "I don’t think Jay is so good, he can hit highs but his regular notes are shakey… #AmericanIdol," observed a fan. "I wish someone would break Jay from singing like he’s performing on a cruise ship. It’s cheesy and distracts from his good voice. #AmericanIdol," commented a fan.
