'Heavy is the head that wears the crown', and nobody knows this better than the platinum ticket holders on 'American Idol' Season 20. Considering the platinum ticket recipients not only got to skip competing in the first round of Hollywood Week but also got to choose their partners for the duet round, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that fans were expecting a lot from these ticket holders' performance.

After bagging the last platinum ticket in the competition, Jay Copeland was determined to prove to the judges and the audience that he was worthy of it. But sadly his duet performance with fellow participant Morgan Gruber fell short for fans. Jay wanted to make his partner feel comfortable, so he let her choose the song for their performance and Morgan picked 'Shallow'. While the song perfectly complimented her vocals, sadly it wasn't the best fit for Jay. The platinum-ticket holder didn't know the lyrics to the song and was also struggling with understanding the meaning behind the song.

When it was time for them to perform, Morgan's vocals were an instant hit amongst the judges while Jay struggled to keep up. The judges immediately noticed that he didn't know the lyrics. Despite the many fumbles in their performance, the judges decided to give the duo one more chance as they knew that both of them had immense potential. Unfortunately, the duo failed to earn the same grace from fans who felt underwhelmed by their performance.

A fan commented on the YouTube clip of their performance with, "This was underwhelming really and honestly, their voices don't work together. Also, considering their voices individually since it doesn't work well together, she was much better and I honestly think they just let him through just not to waste their platinum tickets. He's really gonna have to step up next round." Another fan wrote, "They both are very talented. Jay needs to put more time into studying the lyrics. He's got the raw talent, but this was not his best performance. Morgan sounded a lot like Germanotta in this performance, jmo." "Their voices did not blend well... that was a miss...," added a fan.

The fans also critiqued their song choice. A fan shared, "I am not a fan of this song, and certainly not for their voices together. They have amazing voices, but I wish there was a better song." "I thought they both sang it beautifully. My only thing is that these guys need to work more as a team. If a song choice doesn’t work for one of them they need to move on to another song they both know and can fit both voices," seconded a fan.

Considering the judges gave Jay another chance, he will have to really step up his game and show them that he's a worthy contender. We can't wait to see Jay'snext performance on the singing competition show.

'American Idol' Season 20 airs every Sunday and Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
