'AGT' Season 17 Semi-Finals: Drake Milligan and Avery Dixon advance to top 2, fans feel 'disappointed'
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: The highly anticipated Top Two contenders who will be battling out on 'America's Got Talent' Season 17 was finally announced on the recently aired episode of the NBC show. When host Terry Crews read out the names of saxophone player/ golden buzzer winner Avery Dixon, and country singer Drake Milligan, as the top two finalists, fans had a range of strong feelings about the results.
Comedian Don McMillan who made it to the top three was eliminated on account of garnering fewer votes than Milligan and Dixon. Fans took to Twitter to call out how the voting results seemed unfair while pointing out how Dixon only got through because of his emotional backstory involving getting bullied by his peers, while Milligan was called out for entering the talent-hunt competition despite already being signed to a record label.

A fan tweeted, "A country singer and trumpet player… 1) tired of singers passing over unique talent, that’s what The Voice is for 2) Avery is a great kid, but lets be honest he only passed bc of his story… I’ve seen similar trumpet players on the NYC subway. disappointed #AGT." "I don’t get the disrespect to comedians on this show. Avery Dixon only got through because of his story. Smh #agt #agtresults," wrote a fan. "It was obviously going to be the sax kid. He has a sob story that people keep falling for #agt," seconded a fan.

Another fan shared, "Maybe a hot take, but Drake Milligan legit sounds like any generic country singer. There’s nothing special about his voice #AGT." "Drake stole someone's spot #AGT he should have dropped out once he went number one in the entire country #AmericasGotTalent he already has a record deal lined up. Not fair!" pointed out a fan. ".@SimonCowell #AGT I’m not crazy about professionals being on AGT. I like Drake a lot but he already has a contract, is releasing a new album, and has a significant net worth. He doesn’t need the help," declared a fan. "What i wanna know, is how drake milligan won over players choir. #agt #liveshows #agtseason17," wondered a fan.
