'Y: The Last Man' Episode 2 Spoilers: Show addresses fate of trans people amid chaos
‘Y: The Last Man’ paints a terrifying picture of what could happen if everyone with the Y chromosome suddenly died in a fraction of minutes. The entire US is in chaos as women have decided to take on the streets because they believe that the government is responsible for everything that’s happening. However, the government is as clueless as everyone.
One of the most intriguing things about the comics was how they handled transgender people. The show has also addressed the issue quite a subtlety in the second episode when one of the characters is seen talking about maintaining testosterone levels. So, the second episode sees the newly-chosen President of the United States, Jennifer Brown (Diane Lane), trying to make things work for the government, but it’s really difficult because people aren’t willing to listen.

Meanwhile, she sends one of her agents, Agent 355, to look out for her daughter. Her daughter, Hero (Olivia Thirlby), is still present in New York but is hiding with a group of people. One of them is her friend Sam Jordan (Elliot Fletcher), who is a trans man and believes that it will be impossible for him to go outside and answer all the questions. The entire scene gives us an idea of how difficult it is for trans people to live in the outside world. Yes, there are laws to protect their rights but that’s also a fact that they are exploited and abused the most.
The hero feels really bad for her friend and tells him that she is there for her. This scene also tells us that people with two XX chromosomes, even if it is a man, are alive. The makers have quite amazingly shown that transgender people are also a big part of the show. Elsewhere, Yorick (Ben Schnetzer) has barged into an abandoned house with his monkey and taken shelter. However, he soon realizes that someone else has also come inside. Yorick tries to attack that person but is taken down by the intruder. It turns out that the intruder was Agent 355, who was looking out for the President’s daughter.
She is shocked to see him and takes him to his mother. As soon as he gets out of the helicopter, his mother and everyone present in the helicopter are shocked that he is still alive. So, what happened? How did Yorick survive the apocalypse?
The people who would have read the graphic novel might have some theories regarding it because even the comics could not tell the exact reasons for that. There are a lot of reasons told for that, but what is that one reason that kept him and his chimp alive. Let’s see, how the makers address the issue.
‘Y: The Last Man’ returns to FX on Hulu with a new episode every Monday.
