'Y: The Last Man' Episode 1 Recap: Fear grips the world as men face the apocalypse
‘Y: The Last Man’ was undoubtedly one of the best graphic novel series when it came out. The premise of the novel intrigued everyone and the plot twists made everyone a fan. After a wait of 13 long years, FX has come out with a series on the award-winning novel series and it gives us a look at how the world would be chaotic if all the mammals with Y Chromosomes die at once.
The first episode of the FX show starts by giving us a look that it has been three weeks after a strange phenomenon killed all the male population of the world, including animals. However, only two people from the aforementioned chromosome have survived the apocalypse: Yorick (Ben Schnetzer), an escape artist, and his monkey, Ampersand. Then, we go into flashback scenes and see how the entire world was living normally just a day before the catastrophic event.

Our main protagonist just had a big fight with his girlfriend, Beth, on a day when he was going to propose. Meanwhile, Yorick’s mother, Jennifer Brown (Diane Lane), a Congresswoman is making herself ready for the elections. The first clue of something is wrong comes when a Federal agent or spy named Agent 355 sees a dead deer on the road, bleeding from his eyes, nose, and mouth. A few moments later, a huge group of rats appears on the roads with only a few dying. On the other hand, a dog, tragically, starts spitting blood from the mouth as things start getting weirder.
In the final moments of the episode, we see the president chairing an important meeting with important members of his cabinet, including the security staff. A threat has been intercepted by Israel which concerns the security of the President and he is being shifted to another room. Just when it looked like it was just a bogus threat, the president starts bleeding from the nose and suddenly his veins start popping up. In a matter of seconds, he was spitting blood from his mouth as he falls to the ground. But, the entire scenario becomes terrifying when, one by one, all the men present in the room start dying in the same manner. On the other hand, the scenes are more horrifying on the streets. Men are dying suspiciously while driving cars or flying a helicopter as the entire nation falls into chaos.
Surprisingly, our main protagonist and his monkey are the only ones from the Y Chromosomes to get past the strange event.
The last 5-6 minutes of the episode are really HORRIFYING!!!! The way that men or animals die due to the catastrophic event will surely make you feel uncomfortable at first, but it will also intrigue you in knowing what the hell just happened. Also, how did Yorick and his monkey survived the deadly event?
The series is based on the graphic novel series of the same name, so a lot of people might know about how this show ends. But we believe that the episode has perfectly laid the foundation for an epic show. It will also be interesting to see how effortlessly the makers bring together main characters.
