‘Y: The Last Man’ is the latest TV series to be adapted from the graphic novel series of the same name. The novel, written by Brian K. Vaughan, has been one of the most famous graphic novels of the 20th century and garnered a lot of success. So, fans have been waiting for the TV series to arrive for quite a long time.

However, the show’s tumultuous journey has frustrated a lot of fans, but finally, the drama series is making its way to FX. The upcoming show will be the newest edition in the list of titles that have been adapted from graphic novels. Shows like ‘Watchmen’, ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Wynonna Earp’ have been really successful in the recent past. The makers will be hoping for a similar or even better kind of reception.

The show revolves around the aftermath of a post-apocalyptic event of an unknown global event that instantly killed every mammal with a Y chromosome. Only two people have managed to survive the apocalypse: a magician called Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer) and his pet monkey, Ampersand.

Release date and how to watch

‘Y: The Last Man’ will premiere exclusively on FX on Hulu on Monday, September 13, at 12 am EST. According to Futon Critic, the show will air the first three episodes on Monday and then stream the remaining episodes weekly.

Plot

“All living mammals with a Y chromosome—including embryos and sperm—simultaneously die, with the exception of a young amateur escape artist named Yorick Brown and his Capuchin monkey, Ampersand. Many women die from disasters caused by the men's deaths, such as plane crashes. Society is plunged into chaos as infrastructures collapse, and the surviving women everywhere try to cope with the loss of the men, and the belief that, barring a rapid, major scientific breakthrough or other extraordinary happenings, humanity is doomed to extinction. Meanwhile, Yorick (Schnetzer) is trying to navigate through the ruins of the fallen world as its survivors struggle with their losses and attempt to restore world society.”

Cast

Ben Schnetzer will play the lead role of Yorick Brown, an amateur magician and the last known biologically male human with a Y chromosome left alive. Schnetzer is known for making appearances in projects like ‘Law & Order’, ‘The Book Thief’, ‘Warcraft’, ‘Snowden’ and ‘The Grizzlies’.

Meanwhile, the Academy Award-nominated actress Diane Lane plays Yorick’s mother and the newest US President Jennifer Brown. Olivia Thirlby will be portraying the character of Hero Brown in the series.



 

Other actors to feature on the show are Amber Tamblyn (Kimberly Cunningham), Marin Ireland (Nora Brady), and Diana Bang (Dr. Allison Mann).

Creators

The upcoming TV series is based on the graphic novel series of the same name written by Brian K. Vaughan. Meanwhile, the show has been created for Television by Eliza Clark.

Clark, Vaughan, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Melina Matsoukas, and Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda serve as executive producers on the show.
