Will there be ‘Super Troopers 4’? Here’s what we know about Broken Lizard’s return to the crime comedy
'Super Troopers 3' is out, and fans clearly can not get enough of it. Now, fans are speculating whether the 'success' of the third installment means a fourth could be on the way. Till now, nothing has been officially greenlit. Ultimately, everything depends on the movie's financial performance. That has been the franchise's mantra since its first installment was released in 2000. 'Super Troopers,' featuring the comedy troupe 'Broken Lizard,' earned $23.2 million worldwide at the box office, becoming a breakout hit. Over the years, the movie became a 'cult classic' through DVD release and more, with fans repeatedly calling for a sequel.
The sequel was in development for several years. Ultimately, a successful crowdfunding campaign that raised $4.4 million helped the stars and creatives to lock in a deal with 20th Century Fox, according to Rolling Stone. In 2018, after around two decades since the original's release, the sequel came out. 'Super Troopers 2' also performed brilliantly, earning $32 million against a $13.5 million budget. The third installment was quickly confirmed. In 2025, the movie began production and had its wide release on August 7. Ultimately, this installment's box-office performance will decide its future. However, the cast seems to be on board with the fourth installment.
A week ago, Steve Lemme made a funny post on Instagram. He uploaded a photo of the cast and captioned it: "We are casting Super Troopers 4. Unfortunately, @jaychandrasekhar is out, but Jimothy is in as the newest member of the VHP!" This does not mean the fourth installment is actually in development, but if the team is joking about it, it implies they support the project. Through the responses, it is evident that fans want the fourth installment as well. Hannah Simone, newcomer to the franchise, not only wants a fourth installment but also has an idea about one of its storylines.
For those unaware, the third installment revolves around Farva's relationship with Thorny's sister, Sarita, played by Simone. "I really hope they let us make a fourth film, and Sarita and Farva can really just dive more into their weirdness," Simone said to Yahoo! News. "I would love just to see Farva with the BabyBjörn, with his little Indian baby that looks like Thorny, stopping people, giving them citations while he's bouncing his baby. That'd be super funny." Whether the fourth installment gets made, and also if it features this storyline, remains to be seen. 'Super Troopers 3' franchise essentially follows five Vermont state troopers who fall into several troubles in their varying pursuits. 'Super Troopers 3' is currently playing in theaters worldwide. It features an ensemble cast of Kevin Heffernan, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, Hannah Simone, Jay Chandrasekhar, Brendan Abbott, Steve Lemme, Andrew Dismukes, Brian Cox, and Chace Crawford, among others.
