'Super Troopers 3' trailer promises more high-speed chases and crazy antics from Vermont state troopers
The prank-loving Vermont state troopers are ready for another crazy ride. On April 20, fans got the first look at 'Super Troopers 3,' as Searchlight Pictures dropped the official trailer for the upcoming comedy film. The third installment in the classic 'Super Troopers' franchise is directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, who has also helmed the first two films. Also, the comedy troupe 'Broken Lizard,' comprising Chandrasekhar, Erik Stolhanske, Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, and Paul Soter, returns to write the screenplay. It is slated to release in theaters on August 7.
In the trailer of 'Super Trooper 3,' the patrol gang is back to their silly antics. At one point, the calm Carl1 Foster wonders, "Is it possible we're no longer the cool guys in our own story?" But his friend replies, "Not a f------ chance!" The film's official premise states, ''When Farva's wildly over-the-top Indian engagement to Thorny's sister spirals into chaos, the Super Troopers must navigate Thorny's schemes to break up the relationship, while trying to crack a pernicious new drug ring — all to save the day and maybe the wedding itself." As seen in the trailer, the movie features plenty of R-rated jokes around Farva's bachelor party and his impending wedding to Thorny's sister.
The sequel will see Chandrasekhar return as Arcot 'Thorny' Ramathorn, Heffernan as Rodney 'Rod' Farva, Lemme as MacIntyre 'Mac' Womack, Soter as Carl Foster, and Stolhanske as Robbie 'Rabbit' Roto. Furthermore, 'Succession' star Brian Cox reprises his role as Captain John O'Hagen alongside Marisa Coughlan as Ursula Hansen. 'Saturday Night Live' alum Andrew Dismukes joins as the new trooper Coy Burns, while Chace Crawford appears as Baker Buchanan, and Nat Faxon as Captain Todd Markowski. Other additions include Hannah Simone, Iqbal Theba, Jon Rudnitsky, Lisa Gilroy, and Sakina Jaffrey in undisclosed roles.
The film was announced in 2018 and went into production in August 2025. At the time, Matthew Greenfield, the President of Searchlight, had praised the film, saying, "Broken Lizard has been part of the Searchlight family for over two decades, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for another entry in the 'Super Troopers' saga. 'Super Troopers’ has a way of making the absurd feel inevitable, and we can’t wait to bring audiences along on another adventure with these characters who leave a trail of joy and laughter, wherever their patrols may take them."
The first 'Super Troopers' hit theaters in 2001, became a box-office hit, and reached cult-classic status over the years. The raunchy comedy also won the Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival. Its sequel, 'Super Troopers 2' followed in 2018 and was largely funded through a crowdfunding campaign. Collectively, the two films have earned $55 million at the global box office against a modest production budget of under $16 million.
