LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: With the lackluster performance of 'Horrible Bosses 2' the fans of the comedy movie were left wondering about the future of the franchise. According to a recent report, there is a glimmer of optimism about a potential third installment.

The film, starring Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Chris Pine, and Jennifer Aniston, was a cult favorite due to its dark humor and edgy punchlines.

With the first chapter's skyrocketing success, anticipation for the second installment was dashed due to its unfavorable box office performance and mediocre critical reviews.

The second installment of the film only grossed $107.7 million worldwide, which was slightly more than half of its predecessor's total gross of $209 million, contributing to its overall failure.

Following the disappointing second installment, it was determined that the much-loved film might not make a return, but a ray of hope has sent fans into a euphoric frenzy.

While there has been no official confirmation or announcement about the future of the franchise, Charlie Day, who plays the role of Dale Arbus, has spoken about it and expressed interest in the third edition.

Day has shown his interest in being a part of the new chapter of the franchise by stating that he would love to be involved and that if it were up to him, the movie's production would have already started, as per PopCulture.

Why did 'Horrible Bosses' 2 fail?

Although the second installment of the beloved franchise was panned by fans upon its theatrical release, it did have streaming success, debuting at No. 3 in Canada in its first week of release and ranking in the top ten in four countries.

Bateman, who played Nick Hendricks in the trilogy, shed light on the film's poor performance and blamed the Thanksgiving release date as the key cause of the sequel's failure, according to E!News.
