‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 cheekily sets up Jessica Jones return — here’s when she could appear
'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 picked up from the explosive finale of the first installment. Mayor Kingpin declared an open war on vigilantes, meaning Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock will have to fight to survive. The new season also teased the return of a major Marvel hero, especially in the wake of Frank Castle/Punisher (played by Jon Bernthal) returning to the fold. While Season 2's cast does not feature the Punisher, there is another hero from Netflix's 'The Defenders,' who is confirmed to appear. Krysten Ritter is set to reprise her role as Jessica Jones in the show. And while she doesn't feature in the premiere episode, her appearance is teased after Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) tells Murdock she will reach out to a friend.
The reveal comes after Page tells the blind vigilante that her friend is none other than Jessica Jones. Later, Jones manages to get her hands on the ship's manifest to determine the identity of the captain and first mate, as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) authorizes the Anti-Vigilante Task Force to kill them. This confirms that Jones will appear at some point in the series. At the time of this writing, there is no clear indication about which episode she will appear in, but it is safe to say she is a major part of Season 2's storyline. Fans familiar with 'The Defenders' will know the banter and chemistry between Jones and Murdock. This dynamic adds comic relief to an otherwise gritty and violent series.
Earlier, speculation was rife that Ritter's character would appear in 'Born Again', though it was unclear which season she would make a cameo in. The first season sprung a surprise, bringing in Castle for a timely assist. Ritter was last seen playing a PI superhero in 'Jessica Jones' Season 3. Marvel's 'Jessica Jones' introduced a new breed of superheroes when she first appeared. And while Season 1 opened to positive reviews, the second installment didn’t quite live up to the hype. Lack of depth in the narrative and poorly written new characters caused ratings to plunge. The third season, however, was promising and showed signs of a return to form. That said, Netflix didn't renew the series. 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 will see Ritter's character return to action after seven years. New episodes of the show release weekly on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. ET.
