HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA: Katy Perry is set to depart from 'American Idol'. The singer and 'Idol' judge announced her exit after seven seasons on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' on February 12. Teasing upcoming projects, including new music in 2024, Katy confirmed, “I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol, I mean, I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you what I’m saying Jimmy?” she added, winking at host Jimmy Kimmel.

When asked about her fellow 'Idol' judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie thoughts on her departure, Katy remarked, "Well, they'll find out tonight!" She shared that her co-judges are aware of her plans for this year, stating that "it’s going to be a very, very exciting year... for all pop star girlies!"

Jimmy also questioned Katy about who might succeed her and whether there would be a "coronation ceremony" when she passes up her crown. "Let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan," Katy joked in response. Regarding a potential return to the series, Katy informed Jimmy that she was open to the idea, stating, "Maybe I’ll come back if they'll have me one day!" "I'm sure they'll be very happy to have you and if it turns out you want to come back I'm sure they'll fire whoever replaces you," he said with a laugh.
