Megan Thee Stallion wins Best New Artist at Grammys 2021, disappointed fans say 'Doja Cat was robbed'
After a significant delay, Grammys 2021 is finally taking place tonight, March 14 at Los Angeles Convention Center. The show’s regular venue Staples Center is serving as the backdrop for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. The nominations under various categories were announced in November through a virtual live stream. While Beyonce is leading with nine nominations, Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch and Taylor Swift follow her with six nods each respectively.
The star-dubbed event will be hosted by comedian Trevor Noah. The Recording Academy announced a couple of changes to their rules and regulations last year, to ensure the nominating process and rules are “more transparent and fair.” One of them was to remove the maximum number of releases from the Best New Artist category. “ there is no longer a specified maximum number of releases prohibiting artists from entering the Best New Artist category,” Grammy’s official statement said.

The nominations for Grammys 2021 Best New Artist included Ingrid Andress, Phoebe Bridgers, Noah Cyrus, Chika, D Smoke, Doja Cat, Kaytranda, and Megan Thee Stallion. The much-awaited award was taken home by Stallion.
Stallions' fans couldn't have been happier to see their favorite artist take home one of the biggest awards of the night as they rushed to Twitter to congratulate her. However, some of them are of the opinion that Doja Cat "deserved" the award better and have called out the award show for "robbing" her.
One social media user wrote, "Megan Thee Stallion’s album was fantastic...but Doja Cat was robbed. The way she gets her songs trending on TikTok has changed the music industry and gotten a whole new generation interacting with music in a totally new way. She earned Best New Artist." Another added, "I know that @theestallion did not win best new artist over @DojaCat
I’m sorry I love both my bbs but Doja has been grinding for a hot minute!! Proud of you Meg it isn’t personal".
One tweeted, "say so by doja cat topped every chart, broke every record possible, outsold every video, single, performance, and is STILL topping the charts as we speak. anyone can see how absolutely robbed they were of that award. and no i will not pretend it’s okay, it’s not." And one tweeted, "Megan stole doja’s award I’m litterly gobba go cry now"
