Why 'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 2 must do justice to Mindy's Eurovision plot
Contains spoilers for 'Emily in Paris'
PARIS, FRANCE: With the release of Part 1 of 'Emily in Paris' Season 4, fans like me have been left wondering why Mindy Chen's (Ashley Park's) long-anticipated Eurovision participation has been completely downplayed, with considerable attention focused on her personal connection.
Mindy has frequently been seen helping Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), but she also has an interesting existence outside of Emily's sphere. She has a growing singing career and her own love interests. So, why there was so little discussion about Eurovision in the most recent part is beyond my comprehension.
Why Mindy Chen's Eurovision plot is sidelined in 'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 1?
The majority of 'Emily in Paris' Season 4, Part 1, concentrated on Mindy's personal ties, diverting attention away from the Eurovision contest and onto her personal aspirations. However, it was revealed in the show that Mindy and her band are indeed preparing for Eurovision with both excitement and strain.
Furthermore, Sylvie Grateau's (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) decision to speak with a reporter results in an exposé that reveals Louis de Léon's (Pierre Deny) wrongdoing, causing complications for Mindy and Nicolas de Léon (Paul Forman). Nicolas is upset with the account and rejects it as untrue, forcing Mindy to share her own painful experiences with her father.
Despite Nicolas's struggles, Mindy promises him that she will support him as long as he follows her values while coping with the fallout. Furthermore, Part 1 also revealed that Mindy and Benoît (Kevin Dias) are reconnecting, which Luc (Bruno Gouery) also notices.
Will Mindy Chen be able to make her dream come true in 'Emily in Paris' Season 4 Part 2?
One of the most significant obstacles in Mindy's route to Eurovision is financial restraints, as it is revealed that her band must compile a large list of prerequisites and fund everything themselves, which we know is impossible for Mindy right now.
Yes, Mindy's career aspirations were neglected in Part 1, but in my view, this is merely the 'Emily in Paris' stereotypical approach, where career ambitions take a backseat while love and romance are often promoted. But I'm not complaining, given the human need for drama, but now that Benoît is in the scene, I'm questioning the maker's intentions.
Will they have a love triangle between Mindy, Nicolas, and Benoît now? Extremely unlikely, as it would be too cliche given that the show has already received negative feedback about the infamous Emily, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), and Alfie's (Lucien Laviscount) not-so-fascinating love triangle. It is past time to focus on the other aspects of a character's life rather than promoting romantic entanglements.
It would be a pleasure to see Mindy break free from these stressful love relationships and pursue her aim of reaching major professional milestones, and I hope Part 2 of the show does it right by showing her performance in Eurovision.
