GLENDALE, ARIZONA: With the Super Bowl just around the corner, everyone is excited to find out who will be headlining the half-time. The last edition was pretty star-studded as we had the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Shakira collaborating. And for the 2023 Super Bowl, they have roped in Rihanna. However, the NFL's potential list of performers including K-pop superstars like BTS and Blackpink has the internet divided.

Despite Blackpink and BTS being two of the biggest K-pop groups in the world at the moment, many are worried that if they join the 2023 Super Bowl Half-Time Show. With K-pop still being stereotyped as effeminate or gay by several non-fans, K-pop fans do not want their faves to be subject to racism by NFL fans. Many also pointed out that NFL fans who will make up the majority of the audience at the 2023 Super Bowl are white men who may be racist.

K-pop acts get slammed by local fans

K-pop fans' worry is warranted as we already have netizens making tweets like, "Y would a kpop group ever preform at Superbowl, ain't nobody gonna watch that shit." Another non-fan commented, "Who’s gonna tell kpop fans they need multiple hits to do the SuperBowl." While another user was right about the racist aspect, they still stereotyped K-pop fans, "Yeah let’s get a kpop group whose main audience is teenaged girls and gays to do the super bowl for millions of grown ass (mostly white) men who are hypercritical of everything."

'Football culture is horrible'

One fan tweeted, "Truthfully i don't want no kpop act to perform at the super bowl cause those sport fans are hit or miss and usually are a miss.... need blackpink to be safe, but if y'all want to shove your faves, go ahead." Another said, "One thing imma disagree with you kpop stan’s is y’all gotta leave super bowl halftime shows to western artists, i promise you no one wants to see your kpop group there ESPECIALLY not football fans. y’all saying “bee tee es should play” are only setting them up."

One fan commented, "In all seriousness tho i would love to see any kpop group perform at the super bowl but i just know those football people would do and say so much r*cist shit." Another fan added, "Armys who want bts to perform at the super bowl must not be american nor/or poc jesus . football culture is horrible i’m sorry i don’t wanna subject the tannies or myself to racist white beer belly people."

However, some fans are here for it. One fan tweeted, "I’m sorry but if you’re against kpop acts performing at bigger american shows i’m sorry but you’re racist cause what’s the difference between them and every other foreign artist who performs at the super bowl???" Another said, "If we get a bts & blackpink collab stage or just them performing together or even interactions of them if they perform together at superbowl, it’s gonna be so powerful you don’t understand, the Internet will break and the earth may reset, HISTORY will be rewritten."
