VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA: Susie Evans and Clayton Echard from 'The Bachelor' Season 26 have taken the "painful decision" to split up after igniting breakup rumors in August. The duo had reconnected following the show's stormy finale.

Susie and Clayton have been the subject of the said rumors when it was disclosed that they would be moving from Virginia Beach to different cities: Susie to Los Angeles and Clayton to Scottsdale. Despite assurances to Bachelor Nation that the relationship would endure despite the distance, 'Claysie' has become the franchise's latest victim. Susie and Clayton began their joint Instagram message on their breakup on Friday by saying, "With incredibly heavy hearts, we wanted to share that we have decided to go our separate ways. For anyone who has ever loved, knows this was a painful decision to make and not one taken lightly."

"We understand that there will likely be a lot of questions about this decision — social media is definitely a highlight reel and much of our experiences together we have kept private as I'm sure most can understand. But we will share this — although this last year together has brought us so much joy and so many laughs, there has also been a significant amount of pain," the post read. It added, "We know no healthy relationship comes without its struggles, but we've realized that we were not prepared for the external forces that hindered our ability to not only heal as individuals but also as a couple."

According to the ex-couple, they are "focused on continuing to work on ourselves, so we can be the best version of ourselves" in the future. "This is not an easy time for either of us," they stated, adding, "But we stand in support of each other and hope to see the other go on to find happiness and healing. Although Claysie is no more, we hope that our communities can support us individually as we move forward with love and respect for each other. Thank you to all of you that supported our relationship. It means so much more than you will ever know," the duo concluded in the message.

Why did the pair split?

Clayton had his eyes set on Susie... and a few others from the previous season of 'The Bachelor.' Susie's bonding was put to the test near the end of the journey when she discovered he had been physically intimate with Rachel Recchia and Gabby Windey during their fantasy suite dates. He also told both women that he loved them, but that he loved Susie the "most." Susie dropped out of the race and even turned down Clayton's proposal in the finale, but they reunited post-production and resumed dating. Clayton, in reality, relocated to Susie's hometown of Virginia Beach. They even got past a TikToker accusing Clayton of cheating on Susie with her. "People that make these false accusations should be held accountable. Trying to gain clout by ruining a relationship is embarrassing and extremely immature," he had remarked.

Earlier in August, the former pair stated that they were pursuing a long-distance relationship and were no longer cohabiting after moving in together immediately after 'The Bachelor' concluded. The former 'Bachelor' said to Dear Media's 'Not Skinny but Not Fat' podcast that his future with Susie wasn't written in stone.

Susie's recent announcement astonished and upset a number of fans. Many people believed that being in the public light, along with the terrible criticism Clayton experienced when his season aired, had irreparably damaged the relationship.

Their love story continued off-screen, with the couple rekindling their romance and Susie telling viewers on 'After the Final Rose', "We took time apart after the show and we reset. We're really happy, and we're happy to be here today." Claysie has fallen apart barely six months after the show aired, thus it appears that their final rose has withered.
